After Newsmax’s “news” side hurled sycophantic concern, blame games and media-bashing in the wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, it was time for Newsmax’s columnists to make their contributions to this narrative. Michael Dorstewitz was quick to blame liberals, despite the lack of evidence that the shooter was politically motivated:
Many wondered aloud how something like this could happen in 21st century America.
Although Republicans and conservatives were even more horrified at the events, they privately wondered what took so long.
Many wondered aloud how something like this could happen in 21st century America.
Although Republicans and conservatives were even more horrified at the events, they privately wondered what took so long.
Liberals and Democrats have been hinting at it for years, according to former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
“The assassination attempt on President Trump is a logical consequence of repeatedly comparing him to Adolf Hitler,” she said early Sunday. “After all, if Trump truly was another Hitler, wouldn’t it be their moral duty to assassinate him?”
Dorstewitz was silent about all the times his fellow right-wingers likened Barack Obama and President Biden to Hitler and other Nazis, let alone admit that this was endangering his life. There was also that time a Newsmax columnist advocated a military coup against Obama. Instead, he cheered how manly Trump supposedly looked in the immediate aftermath:
Associated Press photojournalist Evan Vucci captured a Pulitzer Prize-worthy image — the blood, clenched fist, the defiant look, and the American flag in the background.
And instead of eliminating Trump, the would-be-assassin actually assured his landslide victory in November — guaranteed.
Michael Reagan was in full sycophancy mode:
Former President Donald Trump is enjoying quite the win streak.
Last weekend he cheats death by a few fractions of an inch.
An assassin took a shot at him during a rally in Pennsylvania and only winged him.
And Monday what the New York Post terms “the most serious of four criminal cases [Trump] faces” was dismissed by Judge Aileen Cannon in Florida.
[…]We are thankful Trump is on this current win streak and hope his good fortune continues.
Clarence McKee brought the Supreme Court into it:
The attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump should be a warning and wake-up call to those attacking the Supreme Court’s conservative majority members to cool their hateful rhetoric!
The Supreme Court’s (6-3) ruling that the president of the United States has immunity from federal prosecution for official acts taken while in office unleashed an avalanche of hysterical, vitriolic attacks on the Court and its six conservative Justices.
Julio Rivera turned Trump into a victim as part of blaming the media:
For the past 9 years, ever since then-Citizen Donald J. Trump took the escalator ride that would change the world, he has been victimized with countless instances of false news and conspiracy theories like the disproven “Russian collusion hoax” that dogged the former president in the first half of his term and the remnants of which still dog him in some delusional circles.
This phony narrative, that was even endorsed by supposedly trustworthy authority figures in goverrnment, the intelligence community and the media, was only debunked after being broadcast to billions of people around the world and repeated ad-nauseaum, and then not given the proper redactions or editorial corrections to update the official record in the court of public opinion.
It was not a “hoax” that the Trump campaign met dozens of times with Republican operatives or that his campaign manager gave internal campaign data to another Russian operative, and the article to which Rivera links to claim the investigation was “debunked” quotes Robert Mueller stating that his report “while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”
Salena Zito went into total Trump PR mode for a “WORLD EXCLUSIVE“:
Former President Donald Trump has completely rewritten his convention speech in light of the assassination attempt against him on Saturday and will call on Thursday for a new effort at national unity.
In an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner a day after being hit by a sniper’s bullet, Trump said he wanted to take advantage of a historic moment and draw the country together.
[…]The photograph of him holding his fist in the air, blood streaming across his face as the agents surrounded him, has already become the iconic image of the 2024 election.
If he speaks in Milwaukee of uniting the country, it would echo President Ronald Reagan, who, in 1981, projected strength as he, too, recovered from wounds (far graver than Trump’s) inflicted by a would-be assassin in Washington, D.C.
Trump said when he stood up and saw the crowd had not moved, he needed to tell them that he and the country were going to be OK: “The energy coming from the people there in that moment, they just stood there. It’s hard to describe what that felt like, but I knew the world was looking. I knew that history would judge this, and I knew I had to let them know we are OK.”
One wonders how much the Trump campaign paid Zito for such embarrassingly fawning coverage.
