WorldNetDaily is fully invested in the right-wing victimhood narrative — witness her defense of lawyers disciplined for spreading lies about election fraud and whitewashing Captiol rioter Jake Lang by refusing to report exactly what he did during the riot and giving him a platform to whine that he’s being treated likie a prison while in prison (while not bothering to fact-check anything he said). Alexander found another purported victim to peddle a sob story about in her July 22 column:
Allen Skillicorn, a councilman in the very red town of Fountain Hills, Arizona, filed a lawsuit recently against the town, its far left Mayor Ginny Dickey, a couple of progressive council members and their attorney alleging violations of “free speech, his right to petition government officials for a redress of grievances, and his due process rights.” The officials had disciplined Skillicorn over expressing concerns that council members were voting on issues regarding developers who had contributed to their campaigns, and for confronting a town employee who he caught stealing one of his signs.
As punishment, the officials said Skillicorn cannot be elected vice mayor, cannot have his official travel paid for, is barred from interacting with town employees without another individual present, and required him to apologize to the employee. Fountain Hills is a conservative enclave, voting for Donald Trump for president over Joe Biden by over 20 points in 2020, but progressive officials have taken over the town, since they run in nonpartisan races, hiding their views.
Skillicorn’s complaint stated that Dickey, council members Brenda Kalivianakis, Sharron Grzybowski, Peggy McMahon and their attorney Tina Vannucci “determined, after a sham investigation, that Councilman Skillicorn had committed ‘ethics’ violations for simply exercising his constitutional rights.”
The officials’ report, authored by Vannucci, condemned Skillicorn for acting aggressively towards the employee stealing his sign. However, Skillicorn said it was the employee who acted aggressively towards him. He objected to the apology as “compelled speech.”
In fact, as an actual news organization reported, the city employee was a code compliance officer who was removing a campaign sign that had been illegally placed, and that Skillicorn drove “aggressively” toward the worker while flashing his car’s high beams while in his car. The worker said he felt unsafe in the situation and contacted a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy who was nearby. Alexander whitewashed this incident for Skillicorn’s benefit:
Skillicorn said he witnessed a man driving a Town of Fountain Hills vehicle stop and remove one of his signs opposing a bond measure. Skillicorn flashed his lights at the employee in order to get his attention. It was daytime. The report did not allege that Skillicorn violated any traffic laws.
The report said Skillicorn “could have” contacted the Town Manager instead about the incident. Skillicorn responded, “The government is not permitted to dictate the manner in which a citizen decides to approach a government employee and may impose no malleable ‘politeness’ or ‘civility’ requirement, or dictate which government officials an American is permitted to approach to exercise free speech rights or seek a redress of grievances.”
Alexander failed to mention the fact that the sign had been placed illegally and, thus, the city was justified in removing it.
She had another sob story to spread in her Aug. 19 column:
After serving honorably in the Marines, conservative Vladimir Gagic merely wanted to enjoy a second phase of his career as a criminal defense attorney. He practiced law for over 20 years without a blemish, no discipline. But he smelled a rat handling a case the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office – now run by establishment RINOs – apparently wanted to score a victory on, seemingly at all costs.
Gagic had a contract with Maricopa County to represent criminal defendants. He was assigned to represent Jamaal Pennington a few years ago, who was charged with sex trafficking of two minor victims and sexual contact with a minor. Gagic became concerned about the prosecution when he could not find any corroboration of the accusations and thought it was all being made up in revenge.
[…]Gagic filed many motions requesting evidentiary hearings to prove his client’s innocence before trial. Not a single motion was set for evidentiary hearing or oral argument. The only motion the court set for hearing was the state’s motion to get rid of Gagic as defense counsel for alleged sexism.
The case was transferred to Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Justin Beresky, who has served on the State Bar of Arizona’s Professionalism Committee since 2015. He filed a bar complaint against Gagic.
At first, the Bar told Gagic he was eligible for diversion – where he would receive no official discipline and nothing would show up on his record – because the allegations were not serious and did not involve dishonesty.
But then Bar counsel mysteriously changed their minds. Instead of providing Gagic with a trial on the merits, as previously disciplined attorneys receive, the Bar imposed a one-year suspension on him without giving him due process – no opportunity to defend himself. He was found guilty of the usual vague, broad ethics rules typically applied to target conservative attorneys: “engage in conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice,” “engage in conduct likely to disrupt a tribunal” and “make a statement that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge.”
Alexander conveniently offered no documentation to back up any of her claims. Instead, she ranted about the Arizona bar:
The State Bar of Arizona is considered one of the most corrupt state bars in the country, having started targeting conservative attorneys several years ago. The Bar is currently going after Kari Lake’s election attorneys, and together with a complicit disciplinary judge and panel suspended the license of a longtime Maricopa County prosecutor for prosecuting Antifa.
Her supporting links go to copies of her old columns. She has previously championed Lake’s baseless claims of fraud that she claims cost her the election in the 2022 Arizona governor’s race — but she didn’t mention that Lake effectively conceded earlier this year that she has no evidence to back up her claims of election fraud. She concluded by portraying Gagic as “a diehard Trump supporter,” which tells us that she’s more about dubious claims of political persecution than actual justice.
