WorldNetDaily columnist Rachel Alexander is dedicated to her right-wing narratives — one of which this year has been to push the idea that liberals are more violent than conservatives. She began her Aug. 5 column this way:
The attempted assassination of Donald Trump increased concerns that progressives are inciting political violence. The social media from attempted assassin Thomas Crooks has not been released, despite the fact authorities instantly confiscated his phone. Initial media reports gloated that he was a registered Republican. However, the founder of Gab said based on Crooks’ posts which Gab provided confidentially to the FBI, “As of 2021, Crooks was a pro-lockdown, pro-immigration, left-wing Joe Biden supporter.”
As we’ve noted, Gab CEO Andrew Torba’s claim about Crooks is self-serving and designed to push the narrative that Crooks was a liberal — he would never be so willing to disclose the Gab posts of a right-wing partisan who committed an act of violence, and it ignores reports that Crooks may have had a social media account with “antisemitic and anti-immigration themes” (something Torba would definitely approve of).
Alexander then tried to handwave the inconvenient fact of the right-wing Capitol riot:
Yet, Democrats frequently accuse Republicans of attempting to stoke violence with their statements. Democrats point to inflammatory rhetoric used by some on the right, but that rhetoric doesn’t lead to violence, remaining hyperbole.
Democrats claim Trump incited a “violent insurrection” on J6 by telling protesters, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard today.”
When Republicans point to the violence of Antifa and BLM as evidence of the left’s violence, all Democrats can point to is J6. Frontpage Mag noted that the Washington Post “keeps up a steady drumbeat of fear-mongering editorials warning of rage and retribution from Trump ‘militants.'” The article also observed that big tech like Google filters out results of “left-wing violence” in searches for “political violence.”
Most of the J6 protesters who have been prosecuted merely entered the U.S. Capitol building believing the Capitol Police were allowing them lawful entrance. Not one has been charged with insurrection. J6 protesters like Jake Lang who were charged with assaulting police officers have said they were violent in order to save other J6 protesters who were being trampled due to the police pushing back on them.
We caught Alexander earlier this year trying to whitewash Lang’s offenses. And we thought right-wingers like Alexander thought that violence against law enforcement was a bad thing and should never be tolerated.
In her Aug. 12 column, Alexander again tried to whitewash the Capitol riot while suggesting that every liberal is a violent Antifa activist:
Democrats are constantly warning that if Donald Trump doesn’t win the presidential election, there will be violence on the Right. Well, after what happened to the mostly peaceful protesters at J6, there is scant evidence anyone on the Right is planning even something that relatively minor again. The Left dominates the legal system, so any type of angry protest is again likely to result in Republicans behind bars for years. In contrast, all evidence points to leftist agitators planning for nationwide violence if Trump wins.
The left has whipped up its supporters into a frenzy believing they must stop “the great Hitler.”
[…]It is common to hear Antifa state that people on the Right are even worse than Nazis. One member stated, “Fascists, by being Fascists, have announced their affiliation with many of the worst crimes in human history. In some ways, they are worse than the average member of the actual Nazi party was, because they look back at Hitler’s crimes and revere it in full knowledge of what it wrought.”
Another Antifa member said, “It’s not just about punching a Nazi in the face. It’s also punching a Nazi in the face and making sure they don’t come back again.”
Alexander seems to have forgotten that right-wingers — including the publisher of her column — regularly likened Barack Obama to Hitler and other Nazis.
After hyping the number of left-wing activists arrested in protests against Trump’s election in 2017, Alexander dismissed the Capitol riot again by claiming that “only 14 people were arrested on J6. Only after zealous activists painstakingly tracked down the identities of everyone seen on camera at J6, and pressured authorities to charge them, did that number increase to over 1,200.” Alexander didn’t explain why people who commit crimes should go free if they weren’t arrested on the day the crime was committed.
In that vein, Alexander pushed another right-wing trope in her Aug. 26 column, that Democrats have moved far to the left while Republicans haven’t changed at all:
Studies consistently reveal that the Democratic Party has lurched to the left since last century, whereas the Republican Party hasn’t moved much. The Democrats’ platform seems to consist of three things today: bashing Donald Trump, advocating for transitioning the gender of children and promoting abortion – including all the way to nine-month partial-birth abortion. Tellingly, Kamala Harris has no political positions listed on her website. With Robert Kennedy Jr.’s desertion of the Democratic Party, last week fully endorsing Trump, moderate Democrats are being left behind.
[…]Due to the Democrats’ extreme shift to the left, the parties have become increasingly polarized, with the trend most noticeably occurring beginning around 2000. While Republicans’ positions have stayed mostly the same on average, Democrats have hardened their support for their positions as well as adopting radical new positions.
As we noted when Elon Musk promoted a bogus graphic making the same argument, Republicans are the ones defined by their extreme politicians, not Democrats, and previous moderate Republican presidential candidates like John McCain and Mitt Romney have no place in today’s far-right MAGA ideology. And citing Kennedy — whose anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories have no room in the Demoratic Party — as an example of a somehow pure Democrat is ridiculous given how eagerly he joined forces with Trump when it became clear his extremism had no place there.
Alexander continued her concern-trolling — while denying there’s any far-right extremism in the Republican Party — in her Sept. 9 column:
Lately, the MSM has developed an obsession with covering fringe extremists supposedly on the right – most of them have racist or borderline racist views, which aren’t representative of the right – in an effort to pretend these characters represent the Republican Party. For example, no one would even know who Nick Fuentes is if it weren’t for the MSM constantly promoting him. Turning Point USA kicked him out of their annual convention in Phoenix last December, but if you read the MSM, you would think he’s the face of the right.
We know about Nick Fuentes because Trump dined with him, along with fellow anti-Semite Kanye West. Funny how Alexander failed to mention that. After more fearmongering about “violent far-left activists,” Alexander engaged in broad-brush smears of anyone who’s not as far-right as she is:
Go on social media and almost the only people on the left you will interact with use profanity, call the right Nazis, threaten us and embrace fascism in their language, like how they want to put Trump in prison.
There’s a reason Harris posted none of her policy positions on her presidential campaign website – it’s because the tenets of the Democratic Party have become so radical they don’t want average Americans to know. Unfortunately, the internet is being scrubbed of information about far-left extremism. There’s almost nothing regarding it within the U.S.; only foreign coverage, mostly of Europe.
Don’t expect the MSM to pay much attention to these far-left radicals who are fast becoming representative of the Democratic Party. Notice how even AOC, despite all her attention seeking, is no longer constantly in the headlines. The MSM would rather waste time promoting racists and claiming they represent the right, since they can’t win substantively on the issues, and hide the fact left-wing extremists are taking over their party.
Alexander won’t admit that the extremism personified by Trump has taken over her party.
