The Media Research Center’s dirty war on George Soros in 2024 continued with what tried to present as a “SPECIAL REPORT” in an Aug. 12 post:
Controversial leftist billionaire George Soros and his son Alex have worked tirelessly to undermine law and order in America. The Media Research Center has obtained thousands of never-before-seen internal communications from dozens of Soros prosecutors in response to public records requests. These documents reveal how the Soros machine effectively employs an army of radicalized government lawyers to tear apart the justice system. The result is a crumbling legal system where laws are openly defied by the very people who are paid to enforce them.
The report — which took Tim Kilcullen, Joseph Vazquez, Tom Olohan and Dan Schneider to crank out — included lots of scary bullet points:
- Soros Invested at Least $117 Million to Install, Direct and Control 126 Radicalized Prosecutors
- The Soroses Are America’s Top Cops
- The Soros Machine Sets Policies and Priorities, Including Colluding to Break the Law
- The Soros Machine Held at Least 51 Meetings with Prosecutors
All of this, of course, is designed to further demonize Soros, though the MRC has never disclosed how much money it has spent to push that distorted partisan narrative. Despite copiously tossing around the word “radical,” the writers never explain what makes a policy or organization “radical” beyond not embracing right-wing narratives. But holding Donald Trump accountable for inciting the Capitol riot and other criminal acts was apparently one of those “radical” things (which seems to run counter to the right-wing law-and-order way of doing things). The report targeted a group called Fair and Just Prosecution, which is dubiously described as “a radical, soft-on-crime project of the heavily Soros-financed Tides Center”:
The most notable of the FJP-affiliated prosecutors is Bragg, who’s been at the forefront of a highly politicized, legal vendetta against former president Donald Trump. He eventually succeeded, getting a Manhattan jury to convict the former president on dubious grounds.
This is exactly the kind of power the Soros legal machine is able to exercise to achieve its political ends.Targeting Trump was in keeping with the Soros agenda. FJP declared that it was out to hold Trump “accountable” for the events of Jan. 6, 2021, in a formal statement. Bragg’s immediate predecessor Cyrus Vance was a signatory to the FJP statement. In other words, FJP set the legal vendetta against Trump, and Bragg — who is also tied to FJP — saw it through.
[…]In a formal 2021 statement, FJP declared “President Trump and his supporters have repeatedly incited violence and perpetuated conspiracy theories with devastating consequences [emphasis added].” Over sixty elected prosecutors joined this statement, including Gascon, Descano and the Texas Five.
The statement went on to claim — erroneously — that “the sitting president incited a mob to defy the results of a fair and free election in an attempted coup.” It continued: “Our leaders must be above lying, deception, and inciting violence – and they must be held to account when those lines are crossed.”
In fact, it’s accepted outside of the MRC’s right-wing bubble that Trump did, in fact, incite the mob at the Capitol; the authors offered no evidence to back up their assertion that the claim was made “erroneously.” Of course, there was no mention of how many millions of dollars flow to conservative prosecutors from right-wing dark-money groups and from groups controlled by Leonard Leo.
The authors also identified a group of progressive-leaning prosecutors in Texas with the sinister-sounding “Texas Five” moniker, raging that they “vowed not to follow existing state law” — but most of the examples they cited involved right-wing anti-abortion laws of dubious constitutionality. The authors also made their right-wing bias clear — and discrediting — complaining that a group of prosecutors “signed a statement promising not to enforce laws protecting children from chemical castration and genital mutilation, what some leftists erroneously call ‘life-saving gender-affirming care.'” Again, no explanation of why that term is “erroneous.”
A series of recommendations were also offered in order to further demonize the prosecutors:
- “The Soros empire is massively involved in changing the legal system of the United States. Yet, most media outlets rarely cover Soros’s ‘reform prosecutors’ and the harm they have wrought.”
- “ Since the Biden-Harris administration will not take action, Congress must investigate how the Soros empire wields power over prosecutors.”
- “Where appropriate, AGs should also bring RICO-like charges against the Soros machine and its prosecutors.”
- “Because the Soros prosecutors have violated numerous laws and ethics rules, complaints can and should be filed with the appropriate bar associations.”
From there it was time to flog this attack piece in the right-wing bubble. An Aug. 13 post by Kilcullen offered a hit list of the 126 “Soros prosecutors” whose careers the MRC wants to destroy for the sin of not being slavishy devoted to right-wing narratives. Another post that day by Olohan quoted his boss’ rants:
MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider nuked leftist billionaire George Soros’ campaign to direct and control 126 soft-on-crime prosecutors he helped elect.
Schneider went after the “Soros machine” for “upending” the justice system on the Aug. 12 edition of The Vince Coglianese Show. During the interview he discussed MRC’s newly released study exposing that Soros spent $117 million on enacting his criminal justice vision, helping elect leftist prosecutors and funding groups to assist, control and direct them in office.
MRC Business uncovered 7,785 pages of internal communications between these Soros prosecutors demonstrating not only their radicalism but also the incredible control Soros-funded groups exercised over them.
During the interview, Schneider said that George and Alex Soros were “upending” the justice system because they have a “perverted sense of society.” He added, “They don’t like tradition, they don’t like logic and reason and how those things have helped form a peaceful cohesive society. They are upending everything.”
Schneider also appeared on Tim Graham’s Aug. 16 podcast to push the corporate narrative, followed by an Aug. 20 TV hit on Newsmax, as written up by Olohan:
On the Aug. 17 edition of Newsmax’s Saturday Report, Schneider discussed these findings with anchor Rita Cosby.
Schneider went after the “Soros Machine,” noting that the MRC obtained extensive records of conversations between these prosecutors and Soros-funded groups. “These are documents between these prosecutors and the Soros machine and their emails, their text messages, their WhatsApp messages. And it shows that these prosecutors not only got elected with the money of George Soros, but they continue to do his bidding,” Schneider said.
Schneider further warned that “it’s the George Soros machine that tells these prosecutors what their agenda is going to be, how to behave, even who to hire.” The recent MRC report detailed the myriad ways in which radical Soros-funded groups like Fair and Just Prosecutions (FJP) exerted influence over prosecutors.
There was no opposing viewpoint permitted, and there was no mention of right-wing dark money helping conservative prosecutors. Meanwhile, the big boss took the promotion wheel into his own right-wing safe space:
Fox News Legal Analyst Gregg Jarrett flayed George Soros’s “calamitous” criminal justice agenda in response to an MRC Special Report exposing how Soros, along with his son Alex, directs and controls 126 soft-on-crime prosecutors across the United States.
Jarrett spoke to MRC Founder and President Brent Bozell on the latest installment of The Brent Bozell Show, where Jarrett said, “George Soros is a multi-billionaire who, I think, hates America and wants to tear it down.”
Bozell broke down the key findings of the MRC Special Report for Jarrett, describing how, “George Soros — under the cover of darkness with no coverage given to him by any network — has been buying prosecutors all over the United States of America.”
No mention, of course, of the right-wing prosecutors who have been bought by the likes of Leonard Leo.
