MRC Spent Last Year Peddling Right-Wing Anti-DEI Narratives

Posted on March 20, 2025

A year ago, we caught the Media Research Center dutifully pushing the right-wing anti-DEI narratives it’s apparently required to do in order to remain a member in good standing with the right-wing media. Unsurprisingly, the MRC continued to slavishly follow that hateful mandate. Here’s a sampling of its anti-DEI ranting from the first half of 2024, with additional lashing out at anyone who criticizes those right-wing obsessives:

  • First on MRC: Warner Bros DEI Chief Officer Endorses Pushing Out Non-Woke Employees
  • Shapiro on Woke Healthcare: ‘DEI is a Gun Pointed at the Heart of the Meritocracy’
  • PBS: Blame Conservative Crackdown on DEI for ‘Chilling Effect’ on Black Female Professors
  • Velshi Compares Anti-DEI Efforts to George Wallace and Segregation
  • NBC’s Jarrett – Daughter of Obama Official – Bemoans Alabama Law Banning DEI Programs
  • Can’t Make This Up: WashPost Cites Debunked Study to Push DEI
  • MSNBC Legal Analyst Makes Wildly Misleading Defense of DEI
  • Former Nevada AG Laxalt Blasts Federal Aviation Administration DEI Discrimination on Fox Business
  • WATCH: Knowles Sees Potential ‘Political Awakening’ from Alleged Disney DEI Discrimination
  • Kevin O’Leary on Major DEI Setback: ‘The Pendulum is Swinging Back to Normalcy’

The MRC also made sure to take shots at Kamala Harris, baselessly smearing her as a “DEI VP.” A July 10 post by Michael Wnek lashed out at MSNBC’s Joy Reid for defending Harris:

What drew most of Reid’s ire, however, was an article in The New York Post by Charles Gasparino, titled “America may soon be subjected to the country’s first DEI president: Kamala Harris,” which contained what she called “the right’s new favorite slur.” But wait — black women like Joy demanded a black woman on the ticket — for “diversity” and “equity” and “inclusion.” So what’s wrong with the DEI title? Reid ripped into Gasparino and his qualifications to comment on Kamala:

[…]

On top of that, she hilariously slobbered over Vice President Word-Salad as way more qualified to run the country than Gasparino:

Wnek didn’t mention Donald Trump’s history of tossing word salads.

A July 25 post by Clay Waters complained that right-wing DEI smears of Harris were fact-checked:

Tiffany Hsu, who covers “misinformation and disinformation” for the New York Times, took the reins of the paper’s “On Politics” newsletter Wednesday and issued the latest hypersensitive media defense of the newly minted Democratic nominee, under the inflated headline, “Tackling the falsehoods about Kamala Harris.” Yet much of what the paper condemned as “falsehoods” was merely partisan rhetoric which would have gone unremarked upon if thrown at Republicans by Democrats.

[…]

Under the heading “Claims tied to race,” Hsu sympathetically defended Harris from charges of being a “D.E.I. hire.” Never mind that Biden bragged about appointing a black woman as his vice president and promised to put a black woman on the Supreme Court.

Waters offered no evidence that Harris was otherwise unqualified to serve as vice president.
