Last fall, Dick Morris sounded a bit weary of the Trump-fluffing he must as a Newsmax columnist. He used a Sept. 29 column to complain:
As President Trump circles the globe making deals with the European Union (EU) and Japan for trillions of investment dollars in the U.S., he must do more for the average American family. While they all applaud his huge successes in trade negotiations, many feel left out and do not see any change in their daily financial struggles.
As the midterm elections approach, polling suggests big Trump gains but highlight that he has done little to bring elderly voters into his coalition.
One of Morris’ proposed remedies for this was capping credit card interest at 10 percent.
He groused in an Oct. 10 column:
While the proportion voters who feel the country is on the right track rose sharply at the start of Trump’s second term, the upward movement has since stagnated, and voters remain split with only 40% saying the country is on the right track and 51% still thinking it’s on the wrong track.
More important, only 34% feel that their personal financial situation is improving while 43 % feel it is getting worse and 23% say they are “just as well off” meaning that there has not been much change.
These results are from the Harvard-Harris survey of Oct. 1-2, 2025, the most important and accurate of recent polls.
[…]It may take a while for perceptions to catch up with the facts, but that may not happen until it is too late for the 2026 midterm elections.
He came off even more sad in a Nov. 6 column:
The disappointing results from the recent local elections can be traced to one overriding perception among voters — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike.
Many believe that while President Trump has achieved remarkable success on the international stage, those victories have not translated into tangible improvements in their daily economic lives.
In a national survey I conducted between Oct. 21 and. 27, 2025, only 28.6% of 1,000 likely general election voters said they and their families have “been helped by President Trump’s economic policies.”
[…]This isn’t about “handouts.”
It’s about delivering a dividend — a direct return on Trump’s international negotiations and economic policies.
In effect, it would show that Trump is “bringing home the bacon” — ensuring Americans personally benefit from the deals and tariffs that strengthen the nation abroad.
Buyt after the turn of the year, Morris had gotten back with the Trump-flufing program, gushing in a Feb. 21 TV appearance:
President Donald Trump is positioned for a strong midterm showing, Dick Morris, an adviser to the president, said Saturday on Newsmax, while predicting Republicans will win majorities in both chambers of Congress.
“[It’s] time to correct the Democratic doom and gloom about the upcoming elections,” Morris told Newsmax‘s “The Count.” “I think Trump is going to win the House and win the Senate.”
Morris said Trump has positioned the economy for electoral success.
“I think that he’s got the economy just where he needs it,” he said. “It’s creating jobs. He’s got inflation well under control. He’s reducing affordability costs that have plagued New Yorkers.”
Spoken like a true Trump-fluffer.
