MRC Remains In Acosta Derangement Syndrome Mode

Posted on June 20, 2026

The Media Research Center’s longtime fit of Acosta Derangement Syndrome continued in an Aug. 14 post by Alex Christy:

Former CNN host Jim Acosta hates conspiracy theories unless, of course, he happens to be the one peddling them. On his Tuesday Substack podcast, Acosta mused, without evidence, that the Trump Administration could send ICE to polling stations to intimidate Latinos into not voting.

During a discussion with former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman and “democracy warrior”David Pepper, Acosta lamented, “The thing that you just mentioned a few moments ago about putting police officers or troops outside polling stations. It does remind me of something I saw—a very disturbing story in The Washington Post today that says that ‘the Trump administration is evaluating plans that would establish a ‘Domestic Civil Disturbance Quick Reaction Force’ composed of hundreds of National Guard troops tasked with rapidly deploying into American cities facing protests or other unrest.’ This is according to ‘internal Pentagon documents reviewed by The Washington Post.’”

Showing a lack of originality, Acosta proclaimed, “This is just nutty, dystopian, Handmaid’s Tale-type stuff.”

Christy, again, seems to have forgotten that his employer spread conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election, despite him declaring that it wasn’t stolen.

Christy followed up in an Aug. 20 post:

Former CNN host Jim Acosta simply can’t quit the melodramatic ramblings that made him famous. On his Monday Substack podcast, Acosta claimed that Washington, D.C. now lives under occupation, and its residents are showing “bravery and courage” in resisting.

Acosta solemnly declared, “I just wanna say I take my hat off, kudos to the people of Washington, D.C. for showing not just bravery and courage but patience and restraint in the face of what is, and I’m just gonna go out here and say it, an occupation. People of Washington, D.C. are living under an occupation.”

If people can hold signs calling the president a fascist and nothing happens to them, perhaps D.C. isn’t actually under occupation.

Despite that, Christy didn’t actually dispute the accuracy of Acosta’s observation.

Christy melted down again in a Sept. 6 post:

9/11 truther Rosie O’Donnell joined former CNN host Jim Acosta on his Friday Substack podcast to spread another conspiracy theory, this time suggesting there was something fishy about the first assassination attempt on President Trump. In a further sign of his own descent into madness, Acosta just sat there smiling and laughing before claiming the real “weird” thing is Trump’s hand, not O’Donnell’s quack theories.

In the midst of a wider rant, O’Donnell suggested something was amiss, “And his assassination attempt, a man died during that assassination attempt. A man died. And it wasn’t him. And his ear miraculously healed. Ladies and gentlemen, will anyone in the news ever say that without couching it? His ear miraculously regenerated. People, what else do you need?”

Sometimes, arguing with conspiracy theorists is fruitless because you have to disprove the existence of invisible cats, but in this case there’s a simple explanation for why Corey Comperatore was killed and Trump was not: the shooter missed.

Christy yet again failed to disclose that he works for 2020 election truthers. Instead, he whined: “The motto Acosta chose for his Substack is ‘Don’t give in to the lies. Hold on to the truth!’  Yet, with his multiple interviews with O’Donnell, he has given in to the lies and let go of the truth.” And Christy’s silence about his employer’s conspiracy theories shows he’s the one who has given into lies.

We’ve documented how Christy melted down when Acosta claimed that all Jimmy Kimmel did “was call out MAGA for politicizing Charlie Kirk’s murder. Tim Graham had his own meltdown in a Nov, 30 post:

When you’re on Team MS NOW, you think there’s nothing funny going on when Jim Acosta starts lecturing about civility in press briefings. During his time at CNN, Jim Acosta may have been the rudest White House reporter in modern history, but only with one president. On Saturday’s Velshi, substitute host Charles Coleman welcomed in Acosta and fellow White House screamer April Ryan.

Coleman asked for Acosta’s reaction to how White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt excused Trump trying to silence a rude reporter with a “Quiet, Piggy.” Typically, the liberal journalists think you can exhibit maximum rudeness to Trump – like calling him Hitler – but he is now allowed to be rude in return. But his strategy in response – for the anti-Trump press to stop covering Trump until he behaves – would be a huge win for the White House.

Acosta being a rude White House reporter has been an MRC narrative for years.
