Newsmax reported in a May 3 article:
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is in critical condition at a hospital in West Palm Beach, according to his spokesman.
Giuliani was admitted to the emergency room over the weekend and is currently being treated in the intensive care unit.
Earlier Sunday, he was placed on a ventilator after experiencing severe respiratory distress, according to a source close to the mayor. His condition is said to be stable.
The article went on to detail one possible cause:
Giuliani’s health complications may be linked to chronic lung issues and are believed to stem from exposure during the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
As mayor at the time, Giuliani was frequently present at ground zero, where first responders and recovery workers were exposed to toxic dust and debris.
The long-term health impact of those exposures has been well documented.
The article went on to allude to Giuliani’s legal troubles:
Following the election, Giuliani faced a wave of legal challenges, including lawsuits and professional disciplinary actions tied to his election-related work.
Despite those challenges, Giuliani continued to maintain a presence in political and media circles.
Giuliani has been a long-time contributor to Newsmax and his popular podcast show airs weekly on Newsmax2, the network’s streaming channel.
The anonymous writer was oddly vague about those “legal challenges” — which included a lawsuit by Dominion accusing him of spreading lies about the company and a trial that resulted in a $148 million judgment against him after he defamed two Georgia election workers, which labored to avoid paying until he was called out on it, after which the suit was ultimately settled for an undisclosed amount, the source of which Newsmax has never endeavored to look further into.
This article was followed by numerous others updating Giuliani’s condition:
- Giuliani Condition Improving, Remains in Critical Condition
- Rudy Giuliani Recovering From Pneumonia, Spokesman Says
- Netanyahu, Leaders Wish Giuliani Recovery (even Newsmax had to admit one of the well-wishers was New York City Mayior Zohran Mamdani, whom Newsmax despises)
When Giuliani left the ICU on May 6, Newsmax covered that too with an article quoting an anonymous source claiming that “his recovery over the last several days has been remarkable.” After that, he had recovered enough to make a May 16 Newsmax TV appearance to lash out at a previous president:
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Saturday on Newsmax’s “Saturday Report” that U.S. national security “deteriorated terribly” during the Obama administration after officials stopped identifying “Islamic terrorism” directly.
“Starting with Obama where we decided we’re not going to say Islamic terrorism and we literally put it in the back drawer, we’ve been deteriorating terribly,” Giuliani said while discussing the arrest of an alleged Hezbollah and Islamic Revolutionary Card Corp. operative accused of plotting attacks in Europe, Canada, and New York.
[…]“People were always asking me, ‘Are we safer now since 9/11?’ I said, ‘You have no idea how safe we are,’ because they wouldn’t hear about all the attacks. We were sending them off left and right.”
He credited President Donald Trump with strengthening national security during his presidency. “Trump bolstered it for four years,” Giuliani said.
[…]Earlier in the interview, Giuliani also spoke about his health, saying he believes he is “100% recovered.”
“I’m [in] really, really good shape,” he said while thanking Newsmax hosts and staff for their support during his recovery.
No one was allowed to rebut Giuliani.
