Newsmax’s Dorstewitz Has A Medical Meltdown

Posted on August 13, 2026

Michael Dorstewitz had a medical meltdown in a May 8 Newsmax column:

The COVID-era actions and remarks of public health officials, especially Dr. Anthony Fauci, caused us to lose faith in our public health agencies.

Now the acts of individual physicians may be destroying the reputation of the entire medical profession.

So-called “gender-affirming care” for young Americans — pumping them full of drugs and hormones, and chopping off parts of their body that distinguish their sex — has become a huge cash cow for hospitals and medical professionals.

At the same time, however, the practice has fallen into disrepute, and as a result federal agencies and health insurance companies are refusing to pay for such procedures.

[…]

Public trust in U.S. and global health agencies took a nosedive during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Formerly trusted health officials like Anthony Fauci repeatedly misled the public over the origin and lethality of the virus, the effectiveness of masking and social distancing, and both the efficacy and the dangers associated with mRNA vaccines.

Looks like Dorstewitz has bought into the misinformation peddled by his fellow right-wingers — and his decision to refuse to trust Fauci is is own and not supported by legitimate evidence. He went on to have a meltdown over abortion:

More recently was the medical profession’s reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which struck down Roe v. Wade and permitted the states to regulate abortion as they saw fit.

Many states severely limited abortion, and some even banned it altogether.

Out-of-state pro-abortion rights physicians began mailing chemical abortion-inducing drugs to individuals in states with restrictive abortion laws upon request, with no examination.

Not only is this practice dangerous, but it also subverts the law of the state where the drugs are sent, thus making every state a pro-abortion rights state.

Um. aren’t all medicines “chemicals”? The difference is not explained. Instead, he concluded:

Back in the day, we put physicians high on a pedestal: we placed our unwavering trust in their expertise and training to look after our health, and we followed all instructions they gave us to the letter.

The doctor-patient relationship back then was comforting, and if today’s healthcare providers want to return to that relationship, they can start by being honest — honest with their patients, honest with government agencies, and honest with healthcare insurers.

If they don’t, crooked doctor jokes will soon outpace crooked lawyer jokes and crooked politician jokes combined.

Again: Dorstewitz has chosen not to trust doctors because he had been misled by his fellow travelers — not because Fauci or anyone else did anything wrong.
