Theodore Bunker gushed in a July 8 Newsmax article:
The White House on Tuesday promoted the opening of what it called the first “Freedom Fuel” gas station, highlighting a Philadelphia-area location selling regular gasoline below the national average as the Trump administration continues to emphasize lower energy costs.
In a post on social media, the White House announced that the first Freedom Fuel location “has LANDED in Philadelphia.”
The administration said the station was selling regular gasoline for $3.47 per gallon, a price it said was chosen to reference President Donald Trump, who is serving as the nation’s 47th president during his second term.
“President Trump is leading the charge to lower gas prices this summer — putting more money in your pocket,” the White House said in the post.
The announcement follows Trump’s recent calls for gasoline retailers to pass along lower wholesale fuel costs to consumers more quickly. Ahead of the July Fourth holiday, Trump also promoted the Freedom Fuel Network, a group of privately owned gas stations in the Philadelphia region that offered discounted fuel prices as part of an Independence Day promotion.
A White House spokesperson said Wednesday that the administration is not involved in operating or subsidizing the stations.
Interestingly, this appears to be the only article Newsmax has done on the Freedom Fuel stations. That means Bunker and the rest of the Newsmax crew — chief among those questions being who runs them. Infoirmation has been sketchy about who runs and owns the stations; the White House would admit only that they are “privately owned.”
It has also been revealed that a gas distributor has gone unpaid for 4 million gallons of fuel, some of which was allegedly sold at Freedom Fuel stations.
It was not explained by Trump or anyone else how Trump discount gas stations are not tantamount to socialism.
