We’ve covered now-former Media Research Center writer Tierin-Rose Mandelburg cranking out homophobia, transphobia and anti-abortion extremism on her way out the door. Let’s finish our look back at Mandelburg’s MRC career by examining a few other things she wrote about toward the end. A March 28 post complained that stores weren’t forcing Christianity on customers through their Easter candy selection:
Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates…bunnies???
MRCTV/Culture went through Target’s and Walmart’s selection of Easter items through the search term “Easter candy” and found that the overwhelming majority of the results had nothing to do with Jesus, the resurrection or the cross. Instead, the companies, as well as likely many more, flooded their selection with pastel flowers, carrots, bunnies and decorated egg candies for purchase.
We knew that Target would have no problem concealing the real meaning of the holiday. Afterall, they care more about pride month than any other day, holiday or occasion.
When we searched for “Easter candy,” the company provided 499 results. Only five of those results had anything to do with the real meaning of Easter and honestly, one of them was just a little lamb and I’d argue that creators weren’t even intending to represent the blood of the lamb during the manufacturing process.
[…]While celebrating in these more secular ways may be fun for little kiddos, it’s important as consumers and as parents, if you are one, to remind them about the real meaning of Easter. But if that isn’t your goal, Target and Walmart are great places to feed your your anti-Jesus traditions.
Mandelburg used a May 2 post to revive the MRC’s occasional complaint that there are too many LGBTQ people on TV (which is to say, there are any at all):
LGBTQ characters in Hollywood TV fell more than 20 percent during the 2023-2024 season and now, the LGBTQ activist group, GLAAD, has become especially concerned that there weren’t enough gay characters in movies and shows coming out of entertainment. The group issued a statement asking Hollywood to re-direct and add more gayness to shows.
GLAAD tallied all the characters in shows from 2023-2024 and found that there were 468 LGBTQ characters. During the 2022-2023 season there were a total of 596 LGBTQ characters meaning that there was a roughly 21.4 percent drop from last season to the most recent one.
God forbid we see less gay sex and transvestites on TV.
“We know that LGBTQ stories are crucial now more than ever—it is paramount to see our lives reflected on screen, challenging the misinformation and harmful rhetoric that is running unchecked by politicians and journalists,” GLAAD CEO and president Sarah Kate Ellis said.
[…]No, Ellis, you don’t belong in every story. Get off your high horse of entitlement.
Thing is, there’s already WAY too much gay crap in shows.
Isn’t Mandelburg’s demand that all non-heterosexual people be purged from TV also a form of entitlement?
Mandelburg sneered in a May 20 post about federal guidelines on misgendering people:
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission published harassment guidelines late last month indicating that it would be a punishable offense to misgender someone.
Yup. Now, if you don’t call a person who wants to use “ze/zir” pronouns by those made-up pronouns, it would be considered harassment in the workplace.
[…]Honestly, this is ridiculous. The fact that we are even having this conversation is absolutely outrageous. Our country has much bigger fish to fry than hurting people’s feelings regarding their delusional sense of identity.
Another person’s sense of identity would seem to not be any of Mandelburg’s business.
She raged in a June 24 post that some churches refuse to hate gay people as much as she demands:
During Monday Morning’s “Out Loud” segment of ABC’s Good Morning America, Reporter Steve Osunsami talked about the intersection of pride and religion noting that some churches are becoming “more inclusive.”
“Surveys continue to show that are more Americans who are lesbian, gay, lgbtq+, who are religious, than many people would think,” Osunsami cheered.
The segment cut to a clip from the “I Tried To Be Straight Podcast” where hosts meet with “former church kids who are Christian and queer,” Osunasami noted “the emotional conversations they’re bringing to their podcasts are happening in churches across the country.”
[…]While the sinful struggle of being attracted to the same sex may be something people are “born with,” the choice to disobey the biblical teachings on sex and gender is an active decision. The sin isn’t the temptation, even Jesus, a perfect human, was tempted. The sin, according to the Bible, is the act and churches should not allow, endorse and encourage said sinful acts.
GMA brought in Asya Coles, a “young, queer black person” who’s trying to become a minister and is currently with a group called “Pride in the Pews.” The group works to “provide black faith leaders with the tools and resources to create more affirming environments,” the group’s founder and executive director said.
The group goes into churches to essentially train black faith leaders on how to help their congregation be more accepting of LGBTQness in the church.
Coles noted that “God has me” and she just wants Him to love her. And he does! God loves despite sin but also wants His believers to follow the truths of scripture and repent when we fall short, not seek out people who affirm our sinful actions.
Again, this would seem to be none of her business. Nobody should be forced to endure the hate and abuse that Mandelburg and her fellow right-wingers want to impose on LGBT people, and there are plenty of gay-hating churches where she would clearly feel much more at home.
In a June 26 post, Mandelburg followed up on her previous attacks on pop singer Olivia Rodrigo over giving away contraception at concerts by being angry that she … wore a T-shirt:
“Drivers License” and “Vampire” singer and pop star Olivia Rodrigo is face to face with cancel culture after putting on a t-shirt with herself photoshopped to look like Jesus on it.
At Rodrigo’s Barcelona, Spain stop on her “GUTS” tour, she was tossed the gift from one of her fans. On it is the word “Barcelona” in the colors of the country’s flag. The shirt sparked controversy as it had Rodrigo’s head photoshopped onto the body of Jesus Christ.
When tossed the shirt, Rodrigo looked shocked and, without hesitation, put it on. She sat on stage with her lead guitarist and sang her song, “favorite crime.” Critics argue that her move affirms her support of being likened to none other than the Son of God.
She received so much backlash for the move because, if it wasn’t obvious, Olivia Rodrigo is NOT Jesus and it was sort of sacreligious to do what she did.
We don’t recall Mandelburg complaining that her fellow right-wingers have likened Donald Trump to various biblical figures or even suggest that he is the Messiah.
Mandelburg is currently with the March for Life, where she can fully indulge her anti-abortion extremism.
