Just like it did for Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance, Newsmax gushed over Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention. The day of his acceptance speech, July 18, started with an article by the apparently unironically named Charlie McCarthy touting how Trump claimed he has a new “viewpoint on life” and an increased appreciation of God in the wake of his assassination attempt, speaking at the showing of a pro-Trump propaganda film at the RNC. For the speech itself — which, of course, Newsmax made of point of noting that it aired “live on Newsmax and the free Newsmax2 streaming platform” — Newsmax cranked out is usual uncritical pro-Trump stenography:
- Trump to RNC: Must Have Courage to Seize Greatness
- Trump Promises Americans ‘I Will Never Let You Down’
- Trump Explains Brush With Death: ‘I Will Never Stop Fighting for You’
- Trump: ‘I Had God on My Side’; ‘We Would Not Be Here Together’
- Trump: ‘I Could Stop Wars’ With 1 Call; ‘We Want Our Hostages Back‘
A couple of articles were dedicated to speech-related sidelights:
- Melania Trump Enters RNC in Rare Public Campaign Appearance
- Habba, in Emotional Speech, Praises Trump, ‘My Friend’
- Hulk Hogan: ‘America Will Win Again!’
And, of course, there was the usual sycophantic praise from Trump toadies:
- Rev. Graham: God Spared Trump’s Life
- Rep. Malliotakis to Newsmax: Trump the ‘Fearless’ Leader We Need
- Rep. Mast to Newsmax: Trump a Man of His Word
- Rep. McCormick to Newsmax: Trump ‘Can Still Evolve’
Newsmax kept up the stenography when Trump spoke at a rally a couple days later (which, again, “aired live and in its entirety on Newsmax and the free Newsmax2 streaming platform”):
- Trump: ‘Last Week I Took a Bullet for Democracy’
- Trump Mocks Dems Dumping Biden: ‘That’s Democracy?’
- Trump: ‘Laughing Kamala’ Crazy ‘as a Bed Bug’
- Trump on ‘Reciprocal Trade’: ‘You Screw Us, We’ll Screw You
- Trump on Open Border: ‘We’re Not Going to Take It Anymore!”
There was one more piece of stenography from the rally in which Eric Mack uncritically repeated Trump’s criticism of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 platform as “extremist” — but he failed to tell readers that numerous Trump associates and former officials in his administration helped create Project 2025.
