MIchael Savage has been buddies with the folks at Newsmax for years. It published a column he wrote on an irregular basis between 2017 and 2021; among his writings was a 2018 column in which he claimed there was a “white genocide” in South Africa (ignoring the more pervasive black genocide going one). We caught him schmoozing with Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy at Mar-a-Lago in 2017, and a Newsmax columnist marked Savage’s 80th birthday in 2022, gushing that he “has been a colossus astride the American political scene since 1994.” Newsmax also let Savage whine about the Biden administration removing him from the Presidio Trust, to which Donald Trump had appointed him and for which he wasn’t terribly qualified or prepared.
Over the past several weeks, Newsmax has also been giving Savage a platform to spin his greatest hits:
- Michael Savage to Newsmax: Liberalism Is a ‘Mental Disorder’
- Michael Savage to Newsmax: US Needs More True Capitalism
- Michael Savage to Newsmax: More Attacks Before Trump Inauguration
- Michael Savage to Newsmax: Hegseth the ‘Warrior’ DoD Needs
This was all in preparation for Savage getting his own Newsmax show. An anonymously written Jan. 26 article dutifully served up the details:
Newsmax announced Friday it’s launching a weekly prime-time show with Dr. Michael Savage, the renowned radio host, podcaster, and author.
“Savage Nation,” premiering Sunday, airs on that day every week at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Famed podcaster Tucker Carlson will join Savage for his Sunday night Newsmax premiere.
Dr. Savage is a multimedia icon in the conservative movement and the father of the mantra “Borders, Language, and Culture.” “The Savage Nation” podcast is listened to by more than 20 million people. Dr. Savage is the author of nine New York Times bestsellers and over 25 books overall.
An inductee into the Radio Hall of Fame, Dr. Savage aired “The Savage Nation” on national radio from 2003 to 2020 and had more than 11 million weekly listeners, making it No. 7 among all national radio shows.
“After many years of appearing on Newsmax TV as a guest on several shows every week, I am thrilled that I will have my own one-hour primetime show on Newsmax,” said Dr. Savage.
Newsmax was kind enough not to mention Savage’s previous attempt at a TV show, on MSNBC in 2003. that ended ignominiously after he raged at a gay caller to “get AIDS and die, you pig.” We assume that Newsmax is praying that Savage doesn’t pull the same stunt on its airwaves.
