WorldNetDaily really should know better than to republish stuff it steals from the Gateway Pundit, the far-right website that’s even more discredited than WND is. But it doesn’t, so we get things like a falsehood-filled Jan. 6 article by Jim Hoft:
In one of his autopen’s last acts before Joe Biden left office was to pardon Capt. Mike Byrd, the DC officer who shot and killed January 6 protester Ashli Babbitt in cold blood during the protests on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.
As TGP’s Brian Lupo noted, video evidence captured Byrd shooting an unarmed Babbitt without warning as she attempted to climb through a narrow window near a barricaded entryway to the Speaker of the House’s office area in the U.S. Capitol.
[…]On Tuesday, investigative journalist Paul Sperry discovered recently and posted on Tuesday that Former Lt., now Captain Mike Byrd, has been running an unaccredited day-care center with his wife in their Maryland home since 2008. That is nearly 17 years!
The Byrds have received $190 million in this HHS day-care scheme.
A number of big things are wrong with this article, as detailed here by Lead Stories:
- Byrd was not pardoned by Biden, and he is not covered by any other pardons.
- The $190 million refers to all money given to all federal child care funds in Maryland, not just one person — which also contradicts the subhead claiming that Byrd “pocketed $190 million in HHS funds.”
- No evidence is provided that the daycare is “unaccredited.”
The Gateway Pundit has since corrected some of these false claims — but none of them have been corrected in the WND version. When will WND correct the record, if ever?
