WorldNetDaily has been a cheerleader for President Trump’s proposed ballroom at the White House (not to mention other renovations he has done), and that enthusiasm has continued:
- Special commission approves President Trump’s plan for new White House ballroom
- Judge: Legal challenge to Trump’s White House ballroom plan procedurally deficient
- Trump is not ‘the owner’ of White House: Judge halts ballroom construction!
- Appeals court says work may continue on Trump’s White House ballroom
Bob Unruh latched onto the most recent argument for the ballroom in an April 14 article:
There will be certain threats to the security of the White House complex in Washington should the courts refuse to allow the privately funded ballroom project organized by President Donald Trump to move forward.
It has been given approval for work this week while the Secret Service was asked to detail possible security threats from Democrats’ demands that it be halted.
A report in the Washington Examiner said senior Secret Service officials now have cited “numerous” security threats that would be present if the Democrats get their way.
It was Richard Leon, a federal judge in Washington, who insisted that the project be halted. But he included a provision allowing for work needed “to ensure the safety and security of the White House.”
The leftist National Trust for Historic Preservation had gone to court claiming that does not include the construction of the ballroom itself, even as an appeals court suspended Leon’s order and said the work would proceed for now.
Unruh didn’t explain how, exactly, the National Trust for Historic Preservation is “leftist,” and he didn’t note that much of this concern could have been avoided by Trump by not destroying the entire East Wing of the White House before getting full approval for the ballroom. Instead, he went on to peddle the fiction that “Trump has promised that he’s recruited private donations to give the structure to Americans”; in fact, as was later disclosed, taxpayers are on the hook for about half of the total cost of the ballroom project.
Joe Kovacs did his propaganda duty for Trump by citing yet another excuse to build the ballroom in an April 26 article:
In the wake of Saturday night’s third assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at the Washington Hilton hotel, the commander in chief on Sunday urged the quick completion of a secure ballroom on White House grounds.
“What happened last night is exactly the reason that our great Military, Secret Service, Law Enforcement and, for different reasons, every President for the last 150 years, have been DEMANDING that a large, safe, and secure Ballroom be built ON THE GROUNDS OF THE WHITE HOUSE,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“This event would never have happened with the Militarily Top Secret Ballroom currently under construction at the White House. It cannot be built fast enough!
“While beautiful, it has every highest level security feature there is plus, there are no rooms sitting on top for unsecured people to pour in, and is inside the gates of the most secure building in the World, The White House.
Kovacs gave Trump another platform to whine in favor of his ballroom in a May 31 article:
President Donald Trump on Sunday launched a verbal attack against a federal judge who has worked to halt construction of a ballroom and “DronePort” on White House grounds.
Along with two images of what the DronePort will look like, Trump posted on Truth Social: “The DronePort at the White House Ballroom will be, perhaps, the most sophisticated anywhere in the World! It will safeguard our Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C., long into the future.
“Judge Richard Leon should stop playing games with America’s Security! If anything happens, he will be held responsible for the Death and Destruction caused to our Country.
“He has already created enough problems by allowing ‘Top Secret’ information to be released and exposed based on a ridiculous lawsuit started by a highly litigious woman (serial plaintiff!) whose ‘strolling,’ in her opinion, will be disturbed by the new, desperately needed structure – In any event, a woman who has absolutely no STANDING!
“With the advent of highly sophisticated, and powerful, modern day weaponry, we can no longer defend Washington, D.C., with rifles and pistols, alone. This ridiculous lawsuit must be dismissed, IMMEDIATELY!”
Kovacs didn’t explain where the “DronePort” stuff came from, given that no WND article had referenced it before.
