Newsmax had a clear favorite in the California governor primary: Republican (and foreigner) Steve Hilton. It made sure to invite Hiltron on its TV channel numerous times to make his case. For instance:

Even though Hilton advanced to the general election by placing second in the primary, that wasn’t enough for some folks at Newsmax. Michael Dorstewitz insisted in a June 8 column that “Republican Steve Hilton was the top candidate taking 27.8% of the votes,” even though he came in second behind Xavier Becerra. he then alleged that there were too many inactive voters on California’s rolls and declared trhat “Joseph Stalin could have learned a thing or two from California.” It’s a piece of leftover bitterness because Newsmax’s preferred candidate for mayor of Los Angeles, Spencer Pratt, failed to advance despite its favorite pollsters, John and Jim McLaughlin, predicting differently.
Despite Dorstwewitz’s ranting, no fraud has surfaced — something even Hilton himself has admitted.
