Newsmax Hypes White House’s Prayer Event

Posted on August 20, 2026

A May 17 Newsmax article gushed:

Tens of thousands of Americans are expected to gather on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Sunday for “Rededicate 250,” a sweeping daylong celebration of prayer, worship, and patriotism commemorating America’s 250th anniversary and calling the nation back to faith and unity.

The event, which will be carried live on Newsmax, runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT and will feature President Donald Trump, evangelist Franklin Graham, Cissie Graham Lynch, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and dozens of prominent faith leaders, public officials, musicians and cultural figures.

Organizers say the gathering is designed to honor God’s providence throughout American history while encouraging a spiritual renewal ahead of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration on July 4.

“This is more than an event — it is a once-in-a-lifetime national moment,” organizers said in promotional materials, describing the gathering as a “National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving.”

It wasn’t until the article’s 13th paragraph that the word “Christian” was uttered — thus demonstrating how narrow the appeal was. And the fact that Newsmax was airing it narrowed its appeal even further, to those of Newsmax’s right-wing audience.

After the rally, Newsmax mostly left it to a wire article to summarize it, which pointed out that “Most speakers celebrated Christianity’s ties to American history” and that “Only one name on the Rededicate 250 program was not Christian.” It also published an article highlighting Graham “urging Americans to place their faith in Jesus Christ and seek forgiveness through God.” Again, it does not seem that the event was for anyone who wasn’t a right-wing Christian.
