Can You Lie And Mislead? Work For WND!

Posted on February 12, 2024

An anonymously written Jan. 23 WorldNetDaily article declared:

Do you love writing news and reporting the truth accurately?

Can you not stomach the blatant and destructive bias of the national news pretenders?

Then come work for WND!

The fiercely independent news giant is expanding its news department and has several openings. Specifically, WND is seeking a news editor as well as freelance news reporters.

As ConWebWatch readers know, WND and truth have merely a passing acquaintance. It’s very much into publishing bogus claims (especially about COVID), fake news and conspiracy theories. And if a certain “truth” doesn’t mesh with WND’s far-right narratives (which disproves its claim to be “fiercely independent”), Joseph Farah and David Kupelian don’t want to hear about it, and they certainly don’t want readers to know about it. Putting narratives before facts is pretty much WND’s jam.

In line with the right-wing content mill WND has become, the job descriptions for both the news editor and freelance reporter positions include the requirement of “Be able to rewrite news found in other news sources in an expedited manner.” That is, of course, all about stealing content from other websites and reworking it enough to make it look less like theft.

The article, however, doesn’t mention pay. That’s because these people wouldn’t actually be working for WND — they’d be working for the WND News Center, the nonprofit operation to which WND offloaded its reporting work to keep it from being a financial drain on the main operation. And since that depends on donations, it’s unclear how much of that actually gets paid to actual writers.

WND is in need of new bodies because longtime ones are leaving. Art Moore left at the end of 2022 after more than 20 years at WND, and homophobe Peter LaBarbera left in early November after around a year as a reporter (though he’s still listed on the masthead). columnist Patrice Lewis, meanwhile, has been turned into a news editor.

Advice to aspiring WND writers: Be prepared to put partisan narrative ahead of facts, and be prepared to not make much money doing so.
