Last year, we documented how right-wing columnist Michael Letts was repeatedly published by now-defunct CNSNews.com — as well as WorldNetDaily and Newsmax — despite the fact that he is currently out on bond on charges in South Carolina of incest and sexual conduct with a minor. Since then, both WND and Newsmax have continued to publish Letts’ columns despite those pending charges; since last July, Newsmax has published 25 columns by Letts, while WND has published 12 columns.
Ironically, most of those columns touch on law enforcement issues despite his own alleged criminality. That’s because Letts remains the president and CEO of In-Vest USA, an organization he founded to provide body armor to first responders. For instance, a September column by Letts published at WND complained about a California law that “drastically reduced penalties for shoplifting if the items are valued at less than $950. Many people say that it essentially legalized shoplifting in California.” That’s painfully ironic because Letts also faces a charge of shoplifting.
In a December column published at Newsmax, Letts complained that “criminals had no fear of the police or prosecution. They believed they could get away with criminal acts, and so they committed them.” Again, ironic to hear from someone currently out on bail for various crimes and uses his relationship with law enforcement to escape public scrutiny of those crimes. In a contradictory column, published in January by WND, Letts cheered that the FBI “has now shown itself as biased and partisan, and certainly lacking in integrity, which is part of the FBI motto. Its persecution of innocent people and ignoring political lawbreaking on the left has left the agency at the mercy of the Democrats who corrupted it in the first place.” The only evidence he offered to back up his claims is that the FBI is helping to prosecute participants in the Capitol riot.
Letts also engaged in more typical right-wing ranting as well. A February column published at WND complained about Democrats engaging in “political swatting” to hold Donald Trump responsible for his actions and crimes: “All these things are geared by the Democrats to eliminate the competition before an election takes place. For a party that used to proclaim “Every vote counts!” this is disgraceful and needs to be ended before we become a dictatorship.” A May column published at WND was a rant against DEI initiatives, which he called “just a bad way of thinking.”
Meanwhile, a profile of Letts published in May at the Law Enforcement Today website cheered how he is “politician and a supporter of law enforcement” — but makes no mention of the criminal charges pending against him.
In none of these columns does Letts disclose that he is continues to await trial on various criminal charges, and there continues to be no statement about the charges on either the In-Vest USA website or his personal website and he remains active with In-Vest USA.
