As a Trump campaign surrogate, Newsmax fought back against every criticism of Donald Trump real or perceived. When Mark Cuban pointed out that “you never see him around strong, intelligent women, ever, it’s very simple, they’re intimidating to him,” Newsmax rushed to his defense citing some allegedly “strong” women. Sam Barron kicked off the defense brigade in an Oct. 31 article:
Mark Cuban criticized former President Donald Trump on “The View” on Thursday saying he is never seen around strong, intelligent women, a comment called the Trump campaign called “extremely insulting.”
Cuban, a surrogate for Vice President Kamala Harris, was discussing why Nikki Haley, who was Trump’s closest competitor in the Republican primary, has not been asked to campaign with him. Cuban said he thinks Haley supporters will put Harris over the edge.
[…]The Trump campaign hit back, linking Cuban’s comment to recent comments by President Joe Biden that Trump supporters are “garbage.”
Cuban’s comments are “extremely insulting to the thousands of women who work for President Trump, and the tens of millions of women who are voting for him,” Karoline Leavitt, Trump campaign national press secretary said. “These women are mothers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders and they are, indeed, strong and intelligent, despite what Mark Cuban and Kamala Harris say.”
Mark Swanson wrote in a Oct. 31 article:
Susie Wiles, senior campaign adviser to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, led a parade of women who rebuked Mark Cuban on Thursday, hours after the billionaire businessman asserted that Trump never surrounds himself with “strong, intelligent women.”
Cuban’s comments on ABC’s “The View” stirred up Wiles; House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y.; and South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem among others, including Trump himself.
“I’m told @mcuban needs help identifying the strong and intelligent women surrounding Pres. Trump. Well, here we are! I’ve been proud to lead this campaign,” Wiles said in a post on X, her first on the platform since February 2023.
[…]Trump called Cuban “a really dumb guy, who thinks he’s hot stuff but he’s absolutely nothing.”
“Actually, he is very wrong, I surround myself with the strongest of women – With the understanding that ALL women are great, whether strong or not strong,” Trump said in a post on X. “[H]e’s a very insecure guy, and a MAJOR LOSER, always has been and always will be! Nobody likes him, nobody respects him, and he’s unattractive both inside and out! He should go back to talk about the person he was forced to support, because I didn’t want it, Lyin’ Kamala Harris.”
That was followed by the usual parade of right-wing talking heads on Newsmax TV:
- Guilfoyle to Newsmax: Dems Preach Tolerance But Spew Hate
- Rep. Steil to Newsmax: Many ‘Strong, Intelligent Women’ Support Trump
- Gov. Noem to Newsmax: MAGA Slurs Signal Dems ‘Melting Down’
Funny how all of these right-wing women rushed to defend Trump, almost in unison — and almost as if they had been ordered to do so. That raises the question about just how strong and intelligent they are.
When Cuban walked back his remarks the next day, Michael Katz devoted an article to hyping how Trump called that “worthless” and insulted him as “a bad guy, with major character flaws.”
