As a right-wing media outlet, Newsmax wants to distract from the existence of that bias by accusing non-right-wing outlets of being “liberal” or “leftist,” and they have to bend or ignore the truth to push that narrative. James Morley III wrote in a Nov. 5 article:
Technology research center AllSides has documented political bias in search engine aggregator Google News to favor Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump in the months leading up to Election Day.
Google News, one of the most powerful news sources in the world, has been assigned with an AllSides Media Bias Rating of lean left, according the firm. The search engine aggregates news stories from more than 2,200 publications worldwide based on user likes and interests.
The firm collected information on a variety of politically charged topics such as “election news,” “abortion news,” “Harris news,” and “Trump news.” The firm found that when searching for “election news,” 84% of featured articles were either left or left-leaning in their coverage.
But as we’ve documented, AllSides never examines the alleged bias of individual stories — it merely categorizes media outlets as having an alleged slant — something AllSides even admits is subjective — and it’s made even more subjective and less scientific by including public opinion into the calculation. Indeed, the AllSides chart of political leanings conveniently places major news outlets as the New York Times, CNN, CBS, ABC and Politico in the “left-leaning” category. Despite Morley’s florid description of AllSides as a “technology research center,” it is very much a right-leaning media monitor that relies on right-wing media to promote its dubious narratives about non-right-wing media.
