Media Research Center chief Brent Bozell remains in denial about the crimes of his son, Capitol rioter Leo Brent “Zeeker” Bozell IV. So when President Trump pardoned all Capitol rioters regardless of the severity of their crimes or how much violence they committed, Bozell was highly pleased that Zeeker benefited as well, posting a picture of Zeeker and “6 of his J6 buddies” outside prison after his release, adding, “Thank you, Mr. President.”
Bozell pere spent Jan. 21 doing a perverse victory lap, gloating how his son escaped accountability for his crimes, by appearing on the show of right-wing radio host Chris Plante. The segment started with Plante ranting that Bozell IV was merely “caught up” in the “nuttiness” then was “grabbed by the Biden Justice Department and, knowing it’s Brent Bozell’s son — conservative activist, media kingpin — they grabbed Brent’s son and they tried him in the kangaroo court that they stood up like a third-world country.” Then it was Bozell’s turn to whitewash his son’s crimes, insisting he only broke two windows, only one of which was a misdemeanor, and whined that there was a failed attempt to charge him with assault, insisting that “this is a man who has never had more than a traffic ticket in his entire life.” Plante pushed the conspiracy theory that the feds refused to prosecute rioters in other instances — ignoring the fact that the Capitol rioters made it easy by rioting in a highly monitored Capitol and posting selfies of themselves afterward on social media — and whined that “were it not for all these riots, the Democrats normalizing mob street political violence, January 6 wouldn’t have happened.” So Capitol rioters bear no personal responsibility for their actions? Seems like Plante is just mad they got caught. He insisted the riot was a “mostly peaceful gathering.”
Bozell went on to falsely claim that Kamala Harris — whose name he mispronounced — was “setting up a legal defense fund to help those rioters who did all that” a few years earlier. In fact, all Harris did was tweet support for the fund, and he didn’t explain why those alleged rioters should have been denied basic justice. The rest of the interview was pretty much partisan blather.
It’s also worth noting that two days after Bozell’s son and the other criminals were released — and nearly nine years after Bozell did his big Trump flip-flop, going from asserting that Trump does not “walk with” conservatives to becoming an aggressive Trump supporter — Trump named Bozell to run U.S. Agency for Global Media, the parent agency of the Voice of America and other federal broadcasters. One has to wonder about the quid pro quo that got us to this point.
