WND Lies About Opposition To Anti-Immigrant Bill

Posted on February 20, 2025

WorldNetDaily’s Bob Unruh wrote in a Jan. 16 article:

Democrats are a minority, by a handful of votes, in the U.S. House at this point. So they don’t always get their way.

Which some might consider a good thing, as 145 of them voted on Thursday to protect sex offender illegal aliens from deportation.

The Daily Caller News Foundation reports legislation that would “require the deportation of illegal migrants who commit sexual offenses or domestic violence” was adopted 274-145.

The proposal, from Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., also would bar entry for immigrants convicted of sex crimes.

“No family should endure the heartbreak the families of Laken Riley, Mollie Tibbetts, Karina Vetrano, and Maddie Hines have experienced. Every woman and every girl deserves to feel safe in their own community,” Mace, explained, according to the report.

“The radical left doesn’t agree with this. One hundred and forty-five liberals in Congress love illegal immigrant rapists and murders. House Republicans united to expand protections for women and put the safety of Americans first.”

Mace is lying — which means Unruh is too. A less biased media outlet reported the full story:

Progressive lawmakers were happy to explain why they objected to the legislation, which would mandate that undocumented immigrants, or those with contested legal status, be deported if they are convicted of or admit to committing sexual assault or abuse, domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, or violating a protection order.

Opponents of the bill noted that existing law already allows federal authorities to remove from the country any immigrant with uncertain status who is found guilty of “crimes involving moral turpitude,” including rape, sexual assault, or domestic abuse.

But aside from being redundant, said Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the bill, which was introduced by Mace, “weaponizes” the Violence Against Women Act “against—you’ve got it—domestic violence victims.”

[…]

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) added that under Mace’s proposal, “no exceptions would exist any longer for domestic violence victims who have committed minor crimes in the context of resisting their violent abuse.”

“This bill will only make the immigration laws much harsher on the victims of domestic violence, sexual battery, and rape, which is the opposite of what we should be doing,” he said.

Here’s the thing: Unruh knows this. The Daily Caller story that he’s lightly rewriting noted that as well:

Democratic lawmakers fiercely opposed Mace’s legislation requiring the deportation of illegal migrants who commit sexual violence, alleging that the bill will also lead to the deportation of victims of domestic violence who are illegal migrants or foreign nationals.

“This is once again a bill that widens the highway to [President] Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans,” Democratic Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal, chair of the congressional progressive caucus, said during floor debate on the bill.

No explanation was offered for why Unruh and WND refused to tell their readers the full story. It’s as if they still haven’t learned their lessons from the past decade of financial crises caused by spreaing false and misleading claims.
