How is The MRC Lashing Out At George Soros Now?

Posted on May 18, 2025

The Media Research Center’s dirty war on George Soros continued with a March 27 post by chief Soros-hater Joseph Vazquez raging that a Soros-funded group deviated from the highly negative right-wing narrative about the economy under President Biden:

It’s apparently Opposite Day. A leftist economic think tank funded by George Soros is crying that the media lied about President Joe Biden’s economy … by trying to convince everyone that it was bad. What is this, the Twilight Zone?

Center for Economic and Policy research co-founder Dean Baker put out a nutty blog March 26 headlined, “Yes, the Media Lied About the Pre-Election Economy.” At first glance we would agree with that, but digging into the finer details reveals that Baker wasn’t referencing how much leftist media outlets simped for Bidenomics to the point of beclowning themselves into a poorly choreographed circus act. In fact, in Baker’s upside-down world, the media was supposedly just telling the public that the Biden economy was actually a disaster.

Soros funneled $1,011,518 into Baker’s outfit between 2016 and 2023 alone.

Vazquez went on to cite isolated statistics to justify his attacks — but we remember how Vazquez and his co-workers tried to redefine what a recession is in order to shoehorn Biden’s economy into it.

Curtis Houck whined in a March 31 post that Elon Musk’s political donations were being held to the same scrutiny it holds Soros’ donations:

The “Big Three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC were fired up Monday morning with coverage of Tuesday’s Wisconsin state Supreme Court election and predictably were apoplectic over Elon Musk’s tens of millions of dollars spent to help elect conservative Brad Schimel, but only CBS cared to mention liberal Susan Crawford has her own billionaire donors in Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) and George Soros.

“Overnight, Elon Musk handed out million dollar checks in Wisconsin with the balance of power on the state Supreme Court up for grabs. What it could impact,” scoffed ABC’s Good Morning America co-host and former Clinton official George Stephanopoulos in a tease.

[…]

Kvetching about Musk handing out two checks to those who signed a petition with his America PAC, Scott said the results will be “a test of the political power of Musk and a barometer about how voters are feeling about President Trump’s second term” and directly “impact future rulings on abortion rights and Wisconsin’s congressional map, which could shake up control of Congress.”

Ah, there it is! Scott admitted the quiet part out loud about the left’s objective: redraw congressional districts to favor Democrats.

Houck omitted the fact that, as we’ve noted, Soros gave only $2 million to Crawford, compared with the “tens of millions of dollars” Musk sent Schimel’s way. And his complaint that Wisconsin Democrats want to “redraw congressional districts to favor Democrats” ignores the fact that Wisconsin’s political maps are already heavily gerrymandered to favor Republicans.

Tom Olohan was overly excited that the Trump administration cut a grant to Soros-funded group in an April 16 Free Speech America post under the headline “WINNING!”:

The Trump administration has annihilated funding for a Soros-funded group dedicated to undermining the criminal justice system, following a Media Research Center exposé.

The Vera Institute of Justice, a soft-on-crime group that received at least $11 million from leftist billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF), acknowledged on April 9 that the Department of Justice (DoJ) had stripped them of approximately $5 million in grants. Vera Institute of Justice Vice President for Advocacy and Partnerships Insha Rahman told leftist outlet Mother Jones that her organization believes “that the only reason our funding was cut is that we have been singularly vocal in our opposition to this administration’s actions.” Rahman made this point in response to a DoJ letter that purportedly argued that the work of the Vera Institute “no longer effectuate[s] the program goals or agency priorities.”

Five months before President Donald Trump returned to the White House, the Media Research Center published a report exposing the Vera Institute as one of 20 Soros-funded criminal justice organizations working to install, direct and control 126 leftist soft-on-crime prosecutors, such as then-San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin.

Vazquez teamed with Matt Palumbo — you know, the guy who was paid by corrupt billionaire Guo Wengui to write propaganda that was in turn given paid placement in right-wing media — to write an alarmist April 21 attack on Soros:

At 94 years old, leftist billionaire George Soros has established the blueprint for how his enormous Open Society Foundations, fueled with $32 billion of his fortune, will continue fulfilling his dark vision throughout the world under the leadership of his more extreme son Alex. Part of that vision involves using the ever-evolving specter of climate change as a springboard to impel the world towards a New World Order. The utopia that the elder Soros envisions is one that has banned fossil fuels, with everyday human existence regulated into oblivion. The COVID pandemic in 2020 provided what he called a “revolutionary moment” to recognize what kind of social control could be accomplished.

MRC Business, in partnership with Bongino Report, conducted a three-month investigation into the Soros empire’s reach into the global climate-change movement. We uncovered a vast radical leftist network of hundreds of powerful Soros-funded grassroots organizations, universities, and international NGOs with influence in some of the most powerful policy-making institutions, such as the United Nations.

The proliferation of loaded words like “radical,” extremist” and “utopia” in the report tells us this is all about hurling partisan smears. The report also fails to explain why a committed propagandist like Palumbo was considered a suitable partner.

Vazquez and Palumbo appeared on Tim Graham’s April 23 podcast to promote their hysterics-laced report. We assume Palumbo’s history of propaganda didn’t get mentioned there either.
