MRC Whines That Michelle Obama Didn’t Attend Trump Inauguration

Posted on June 7, 2025

The Media Research Center has long had a serious case of Obama Derangement Syndrome, despite the fact that Barack Obama left the presidency more than eight years ago. But the derangement has been more focused in recent months on Michelle Obama. Last November, for instance, Clay Waters whined that the New York Times noted that Michelle claimed a “double standard” in the treatment of Kamala Harris during the 2024 election, prompting him to rant, “Who needs journalistic discernment when you can just transcribe an embittered former first lady ranting about Republican sexism?”

In an April 24 post, Justine Brooke Murray gushed that she got to spew irrational hate at MIchelle during a Fox News appearance:

Life is sooo hard being a Former First Lady with a $70 million net worth. Remember in 2008 when Michelle Obama announced she only became proud of our nation right then, as she was about to achieve First Lady status?

Now that she’s no longer First Lady, she joined the washed-up female star to podcaster pipeline, admitting on her show that she no longer has to pretend she likes America anymore.

On Thursday, I joined Fox and Friends First to discuss how Obama has become the Meghan Markle of White House history. We also covered the Left’s antisemitic double standards when it comes to free speech on college campuses.

Going back to Obama, she patted herself on the back for refusing to have the decency to put her grudges behind her and show up at President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January (as if anyone outside her elite bubble cares that deeply, whether she attended or not).

Refusing to get off her lazy butt apparently makes this narcissist a feminist martyr, in her own eyes. The former First Lady made up an imaginary misogynist overlord she somehow defeated by playing hooky and packaging it as a message for young women that “it’s okay to say no.”

Murray failed to mention that Donald Trump didn’t have the decency to put his grudges behind him and show up at President Biden’s inauguration, and she would never accuse Trump of being a narcissist who won’t get off his lazy butt.

Nicholas Fondacaro similarly censored Trump no-show in his daily hate-watch of “The View” the same day:

Thursday was apparently a slow day for the liberal ladies of ABC’s The View since they occupied their first segment by hyperventilating about people who expected former First Lady Michelle Obama to show the office of the president respect and attend President Trump’s second inauguration. The View cast were eager to blame it on sexism and suggested women uniquely had to deal with people putting pressure on them to attend events they didn’t want to.

Tim Graham whined more about this in his April 25 podcast, sneering that Michelle is a “self-adoring diva”:

Eight years after she left the White House, the liberals on TV are still fawning all over Michelle Obama. Gayle King and Whoopi Goldberg led the parade defending Queen Michelle’s self-absorbed decision to skip Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s inauguration because it wasn’t “the right thing for me.” She’s free to do that, but she’s not free to demand we all shut up about it.

On April 10, CBS Mornings host Gayle King led her royal consort in proclaiming that Mrs. Obama can tell everyone it’s none of their business. “She doesn’t need to explain anything to anybody,” announced CBS’s Vladimir Duthiers. Gayle thought her complaining was so lovable!

The funniest part of this fawning is Gayle saying Michelle’s so unbothered, “I bet she won’t talk about this again.” Oh no, she did it again on another podcast with an actress. This time it was Taraji P. Henson, who seems like quite a egotistical diva in her own right, but this was on Michelle’s own podcast (the one with her brother Craig Robinson.)

He too failed to mention that Trump didn’t bother to attend Biden’s inauguration. But then, it’s still the MRC’s editorial stance that Trump actually won the 2020 election.
