We’ve shown how Media Research Center writer Dawn Slusher has been spending her time lately whining that TV shows aren’t right-wing enough for her. But she was also doing that last year as well, and not just for “grown-ish.” So let’s go back and take a look at how that went down.
In April 2024, Slusher whined that right-wingers were depicted as hateful, especially on LGBTQ issues:
Disney/ABC’s procedural drama Will Trent took a political turn this week as the show touched on the issue of drag queens and the sexualization of children, as well as anti-cop sentiment. You can probably guess which side the show was on for both issues.
At the opening of Tuesday’s episode, “We Are Family,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) team is investigating the murder of an “extremely conservative, extremely divisive” judge, Deidre.
When the investigation leads them to a drag club, the team is confused as to why a conservative judge would go there. They enter the club to gather more clues, only to find the judge’s son works there and that the club has been the target of bomb threats and a “weirdo” protester outside:
[…]So, the drag queens are kind-hearted saviors while the parents are mean, evil Christians. No agenda here, right? The left isn’t trying to divide families and parents from their children at all, right?
Also, why did the writers have Gabe admit he physically assaulted his mother and put her in the hospital as the answer to why his mother was apologizing? And why are we supposed to believe he was kicked out for being gay, when in fact it was because he assaulted his mother? Make it make sense.
[…]Yes, Hollywood wants you to believe that the good citizens of this country who don’t care what adults do in their private/leisure time, but are concerned about children being sexualized, are actually very bad, angry bigots who would destroy property and scream into a bullhorn outside of a drag club where everyone is an adult. #eyeroll
Slusher had a similar complaint the following month:
As if ABC’s Station 19 didn’t shove their liberal opinions down our throats enough by championing kids attending over-sexualized gay pride parades and portraying anyone who doesn’t toe the LGBTQ line as hateful bigots, the show decided to revisit last month’s storyline in their latest episode, “Give It All.”
Apparently, Shonda Rhimes hadn’t given it her all in the previous episode, “True Colors,” and she had some more liberal preaching to do. If you remember, in the previous episode, a crowd of angry, white, conservative men (of course) were protesting at a pride parade in which Station 19 was participating, including bi-sexual character Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) who saw her brother among the men.
Now, four episodes later, Maya’s brother is back to again teach viewers, “Conservatives bad! White men bad! Liberals good!” I mean, they could at least try to come up with a unique storyline instead of ripping off tired old tropes from other shows.
In September, Slusher groused that the “Bel-Air” dramatic reboot didn’t hate non-heterosexual people enough:
One of the many reboots being made in Hollywood is the classic comedy hit from the early ‘90s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, streaming on Peacock now as Bel-Air. Currently in its second season, Bel-Air is now a drama instead of a comedy and is absolutely nothing like the original.
For example, happy-go-lucky Carlton, who was famous for his cheesy dance moves, is now a recovering drug addict. There’s also a woke, CRT (critical race theory) storyline. But the biggest change of all is youngest Banks daughter Ashley (Akira Akbar), who is now a lesbian. In episode 6, Baggage,” Ashley’s mom Vivian (Cassandra Freeman) finds her and her male friend Eli (Michael Govan Hackett) alone in Ashley’s bedroom.
Ashley tells her mom it’s okay he’s there, because he’s non-binary and uses he/they pronouns. Therefore, “they’re not really a boy,” which Vivian accepts as perfectly okay, albeit with seeming hesitation:
[…]My how times have changed! I guess now that we’re in the 2020s, boys in a girl’s bedroom can be excused with a simple pronoun change, gender identity confusion and claims of being gay from either child.
That couldn’t possibly lead to kids lying just to get their boyfriend or girlfriend into their bedroom, right? Let’s just trust them and hope for the best in the name of progress. #eyeroll
Slusher targeted a different show for the same reasons a couple weeks later:
Liberal schoolteachers are every conservative parent’s worst nightmare. But, at least in the past, they tried to hide their bias. These days, there’s an all-out culture war going on in our schools, and FX’s new comedy English Teacher, which Time magazine called “easily the year’s best new sitcom,” is a perfect example of how liberal teachers now openly push their agenda without any shame.
To its credit, the show pokes fun at itself. It gives a voice to conservative viewpoints at times, but not enough to overcome the overall message that kids should be allowed to dress in drag for a school event after learning how to perform by a drag queen, that gay teachers should be able to make out and grab their partner’s backside in front of their students without repercussions, that it’s wrong to teach kids proper gun safety, and that all guns are bad.
Slusher used an October post to bizarrely defend anti-vaxxers:
Long after the Covid pandemic and vaccine mandates were at their peak, Hollywood is still hating on those who were/are wary about getting the vaccine. Case in point, Hulu’s comedy How to Die Alone, which featured a joke about an airline agent purposely booking difficult flights for “drunk anti-vaxxers.”
The show had many little liberal digs scattered throughout its eight-episode first season, including using white racial stereotypes as fodder for laughs which happened in episode 8, “Get Lost.” But the worst dig came in the same episode, and it was at the expense of those who were wary of getting the Covid vaccine.
It’s understandable many people were hesitant given the vaccine was new and, more specifically, mRNA-type vaccines had never been given to the public before. No one knew what long-term side effects could potentially occur.
Given what we know now about the many life-threatening conditions linked to the vaccines, no one should blame people for being cautious. And there could be even more we don’t know about since the CDC admitted to withholding information from the public because they believe it “could lead to misinformation.”
But Hollywood still blames who they label “anti-vaxxers,” and How to Die Alone made sure to throw more shade at them.
Sounds like Slusher is a hardcore anti-vaxxer as well. That’s making us do the #eyeroll.
In a December post, Slusher switched her attention to music by raging that Alanis Morrissette’s version of “O Holy Night” “blasphemously misgenders Jesus as ‘she,’ all in the name of ‘peace and healing,'” huffily adding: “You Oughta Know, Morissette, so we’re here to remind you of the mess you made when you trashed this beloved song and insulted Christians who love and worship the God of the Bible.”
