WND Served Up Pro-Trump Stenography On Summit With Putin

Posted on September 15, 2025

WorldNetDaily and its writers have long been supporters of Russia and Vladimir Putin in the war they have waged against Ukraine — and earlier this year, WND cheered that President Trump lashed out at Ukrainian leader Volodomyr Zelensky during a White House visit, and it was even surprised that Ukraine carried out an audacious drone attack against Russian military assets though it has never single out one of the many drone attacks Russia has launched against Ukraine civilians.

WND’s toadying toward Trump — and, by extension, Putin — has continued. An anonymously written June 14 post served up Trump stenography:

In a Truth Social post Saturday, President Trump reported that he had a one-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Beginning with niceties involving Trump’s 79th birthday, the call included discussion of both the Israel-Iran conflict and Russia-Ukraine war.

After Trump set up a summit with Putin in Alaska, an Aug. 13 article by Joe Kovacs served up more complaining by Trump that it was pointed out that Zelensky was not invited and the other two parties would likely be negotiating the terms of Ukraine’s surrender:

As President Donald Trump prepares to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday to help broker peace in Ukraine, the commander in chief is launching into “sick and dishonest” American news media for their coverage he says is powered by “corruption.”

In a scathing post on Truth Social Wednesday, Trump said: “Very unfair media is at work on my meeting with Putin.”

“Constantly quoting fired losers and really dumb people like John Bolton, who just said that, even though the meeting is on American soil, ‘Putin has already won.’ What’s that all about?”

“We are winning on EVERYTHING. The Fake News is working overtime (No tax on overtime!). If I got Moscow and Leningrad free, as part of the deal with Russia, the Fake News would say that I made a bad deal! But now they’ve been caught.

Kovacs did not prove any of Trump’s critics wrong.

Bob Unruh hyped Trump’s purported “dominance” over Putin in an Aug. 15 article:

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, arrived Friday afternoon in Alaska for a summit with President Donald Trump, whose goal it is to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, which Russia invaded three years ago.

And he was met immediately with a demonstration of America’s firepower: A flyover by a B-2 stealth bomber and some F-35 jets.

Washington Examiner said two B-2s had been flown into Alaska just before the meeting, and did the flyover just as Trump was greeting Putin.

[…]

The Examiner commented, “They are likely meant to assert U.S. dominance over Russia ahead of the summit. More bombers may be headed in the same direction, according to defense analysis site TWZ.”

Unruh then groused that a congressman asked that Putin face justice during the summit:

Rep. Jim McGovern, a Democrat from Massachusetts, has been in Congress for nearly three decades.

One would think this idea wouldn’t have popped up immediately, but it did for him: Arresting the leader of a major world power that in many ways is in opposition to the United States – and see what happens.

But that’s his idea.

McGovern, just as Russian President Vladimir Putin was arriving in Alaska for a summit with President Donald Trump, whose goal it is to end the killing in the Russia-Ukraine war, said on social media, “Trump rolls out the red carpet for a war criminal. On American soil. The U.S. government should be arresting Putin, not hosting him. Shameful and embarrassing.”

The president has high hopes for the summit, explaining that the war, which he’s worked to bring to halt since he took office, finally would begin winding down as a result of discussions this week.

However, he’s not counting on anything, as he’s promised consequences if Putin isn’t willing to work on the plan.

A comment from the Blaze, about McGovern’s rant, was short: “UNHINGED: Democrat Rep. Jim McGovern says the U.S. government should have arrested Putin in Alaska instead of trying to pursue peace talks.”

How is it “UNHINGED” to hold a foreign leader to account for starting a war? Unruh never explained.

Unruh served up post-summit stenography in yet another article that day:

President Donald Trump, after a roughly three-hour summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, confirmed that there was significant progress made on the agenda of getting the killing in the Ukraine war halted, but it’s not completed. Yet.

“There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” Trump confirmed.

And he said his next work is to “call up NATO,” call other people, call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to talk with him about the issues at hand.

Trump called it a “productive” meeting and said there were “many, many” points of agreement.

WND also published an article from the right-wing Daily Caller whining that Trump’s literally rolling out the red carpet for Putin at the summit was called out. There was also an article taken from the discredited Gateway Pundit citing a so-called body language expert insisting that “President Trump dominated Putin at the Summit, ‘He’s in command.'”

An anonymously written Aug. 16 article served up even more Trump suck-up gestures:

First Lady Melania Trump wrote a “peace letter” to Russian President Vladimir Putin telling him “it is time” to protect children and future generations around the globe, a letter hand-delivered by President Trump before the high-stakes meeting in Alaska Friday.

Fox News Digital exclusively obtained a copy of the “peace letter” the first lady penned to Putin.

According to the report, immediately upon receiving the letter, Putin read it as the U.S. and Russian delegations looked on.

It was not explained why anyone should care what Melania Trump has to say on the issue or why she was allowed to give a letter to Putin.
