MRC Cheers Trump Administration Threats Against ‘The View’

Posted on October 4, 2025

The Media Research Center’s resident hate-watcher of (and liar about) “The View,” Nicholas Fondacaro, spent a July 24 post chortling that the Trump administration had threatened the show:

As NewsBusters has documented in recent days, ABC News program, The View had made some pretty incendiary and heinous accusations against President Trump; accusing of everything from “crimes against humanity” to “treason.” The White House had apparently had enough, because in a statement to Fox News on Wednesday, the administration called out the show and warned them to straighten up before they get “pulled off-air.” FCC Chairman Brendan Carr also hinted that the administration could be scrutinizing The View.

In reacting to ABC co-host Joy Behar’s accusations of Trump committing acts of treason against the United States, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers issued the administration’s warning, while mocking the show’s ratings:

Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s no surprise that The View’s ratings hit an all-time low last year. She should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off-air.

In an appearance on Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom, Carr was asked by co-host Bill Hemmer if “The View now in the crosshairs of this administration?”

Carr stated that there could be more “consequences” for liberal media outlets which don’t adhere to rigorous journalistic standards:

Of course, the MRC has never demanded that Fox News adhere to “rigorous journalistic standards,” as its defense of the channel over its lies about Dominion — which resulted in Fox News paying $787 million to the company to settle a defamation lawsuit — demonstrates. And it can be assume that Carr will never criticize any right-wing outlet the way he is lashing out at this show. Fondacaro continued to fawn over Carr’s threats:

It’s worth noting that ABC News is one of the legacy broadcasters in America, which also included CBS and NBC. This meant that they were licensed by the FCC to be able to broadcast over-the-air, and as such they needed to adhere to certain guidelines set down by the FCC. This set them apart from outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, which were cable outlets.

Carr also commended CBS for taking proactive steps to “root out bias” in journalism and not “run a partisan circus.”

No mention, of course, that Fox News — where Carr made his attack — is a partisan circus. And those “proactive steps” by CBS were likely done because its parent company needed Trump administration approval for a merger, an obvious fact the MRC has denied.

The same day, Fondacaro cheered rumors the show might get canceled:

It was a perfect storm of miscommunication. On Thursday, ABC News co-host Joy Behar sparked speculation that The View was cancelled after she accidentally announced that they were soon to start their summer “hiatus,” which had been kept close to the chest. The announcement was made off the cuff and came mere hours after President Trump had suggested the show was in danger of cancelation and ABC faced possible scrutiny by the FCC.

Near the top of the show, Behar let it slip that it was their last week with live episodes and asking if it was okay for her to say that publicly; receiving exasperated responses from co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin and executive producer Brian Teta:

[…]

Of course, because of the cryptic nature of Behar’s announcement and how the end of the season seemed to be a secret for some reason, speculation and hope from folks on the right of their cancelation exploded online.

“Joy was (mischievously?) referring to the annual summer break that ‘The View’ takes. The hit talk show will be back with new episodes in September, like usual,” CNN chief media analyst Brian Stelter addressed the speculation on X.

Fondacaro then repeated his hype that “the White House had strong words for Behar and The View warning of a possible cancelation” and that and that “FCC Chairman Brendan Carr had made comments about ABC and The View getting scrutiny.”

Fondacaro continued his attack on the show in a July 30 post:

In 2022 when NewsBusters first counted the legal notes being delivered by ABC’s The View, we found that they were forced to issue exactly three dozen (36) of them. A lot can change in two and a half years. The View has issued exactly ZERO legal notes, thus far in 2025. That’s despite the fact that there was more than enough need for them.

Between January 6 and July 25, 2025, the second half of the show’s 28th season, the cast was made to read ZERO legal notes.

[…]

While the legal notes may have evaporated in 2025, the need didn’t.

In 2025, there had thus far been three instances which they pushed the unfounded conspiracy theory that President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk rigged the 2024 presidential election.

Says the guy whose employer pushed the unfounded conspiracy theory that the media that Trump actually won re-election in 2020, which helped fuel the Capitol riot, a participant in which was then-leader Brent Bozell’s son. Also, we don’t recall the MRC issuing any legal notes to try and correct Fondacaro’s lies.

Fondacaro once again cheered Carr’s threats against the show: “Recently, the White House and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr made headlines that seemed to hint there could be action taken against The View, with the latter specifically citing their legal notes.”

In another July 30 post, Fondacaro whined that ” in the first seven months of 2025, the cast spoke with ZERO guests that promoted conservative or pro-Trump policies. Looking back into 2024, and there were no right-leaning guests in the entire season.” We don’t recall Fondacaro ever complaining that his boss, Tim Graham has had ZERO left-leaning guests on his podcast.

Despite that fervent hope of government-ordered cancellation on Fondacaro’s part, he spent an Aug. 7 post whining that someone else had made that observation:

In a Wednesday TikTok post that resembled the scribblings of a madman, “comedian” Rosie O’Donnell sought to warn her followers that her old haunt, ABC’s The View was about to be canceled because of their “liberal bias.” She proclaimed that it was another example of the “fascism” of “the orange messiah” (President Trump) trying to “silence” women with opinions, and invoked phrases used for warning about Nazism and the Holocaust.

[…]

Invoking phrases that warned of the Holocaust, O’Donnell continued: “First they came for the journalists Then the educators then the librarians [.] Now, it’s Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg[.]”

Yes, the outlet that loves to smear media critics as “digital brownshirts” is getting the vapors over Holocaust allusions.
