An Aug. 15 Newsmax article by the apparently unironically named Charlie McCarthy carries the headline “Woke War on Young Men: More Suicide, Dangers.” It summarizes a New York Times article claiming that “Technology, immigration, and growing inequality reportedly have contributed to create a crisis for young men and boys in the U.S.”
But McCarthy doesn’t identify how any of those things are “woke,” whatever that means — indeed, the word appears nowhere in his article outside of the headline. Or does he indicate that the word was used in the Times article from which he’s cribbing.
It appears that McCarthy (or the person who wrote the headline) either has a vivid imagination or is simply trying get some cheap right-wing clicks by inserting the word “woke” in a place it doesn’t actually apply.
