MRC Dismisses White House Destruction As ‘Local Zoning Dispute’

Posted on December 30, 2025

Yes, Jorge Bonilla really did write this in an Oct. 23 Media Research Center post:

It is not often that legacy media national newscasts devote precious A-block time to what amounts to an ongoing renovation with zoning board issues. But in an endless Trump Resistance media loop, the construction of the new White House ballroom is a unique affront to the nation’s institutional integrity- and draws such coverage.

But Bonilla wasn’t done:

All in all, the ballroom hubbub remains one the dumber resistance cycles in recent memory. The media would probably not even care, were the renovations were done under any other president. But this is Trump, and Trump Derangement demands the performance of ridiculous Resistance Theater at every turn- even if the matter in question amounts to a zoning dispute.

It’s as if the history of the White House doesn’t matter — indeed, Bonilla fretted about “optics” being called out without explaining why those optics are important or why Trump should not have waited until the proper agencies signed off on the destruction before actually doing it.

Bonilla continued this overwrougght narrative in another post the same day, which also received an all-caps “THE DUMBEST CYCLE” tag:

The dumbest news cycle in recent memory continues apace, as the legacy nightly news continue to cover the Trump administration’s construction of an ornate ballroom in the East Wing as though it were Watergate. But there may be signs that this story may yet fade.

[…]

Muir’s melodramatic intro gave way to Mary Bruce in peak Mary Brucey form, who proceeded to describe the ruins of the hallowed East Wing with a care and reverence normally reserved for terror attack sites. Bruce then played herself haranguing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt over the construction, before whining about the fact that the administration did not go through the normal bureaucratic channels before proceeding with demolition.

After trying to gotcha President Donald Trump on the exact to-the-penny amount of his personal donation to the ballroom fund, Bruce shifted to the shutdown- taking great care to keep her coverage Democrat-coded. Bruce blames Trump for refusing to negotiate with the Democrats, who just want to save you from healthcare Armageddon.

[…]

That this terminally dumb story still occupies space atop the A-block is proof evident of the extent to which the story is driven by reflexive Trump derangement, as opposed to a pursuit of the facts.

Again, no acknowledgment of why the destruction was a story in the first place.
