Pompous Overload: MRC’s Year Of Whining About John Dickerson

Posted on January 25, 2026

The Media Research Center has long despised John Dickerson, former CBS correspondent and CBS Evening News co-host — but that hatred predated Dickerson’s Evening News stint. Here’s an October 2024 post by Curtis Houck:

Wednesday’s CBS Mornings predictably had robust coverage of the vice presidential debate it hosted between Republican Senator JD Vance and Democratic Governor Tim Walz (MN), but it was often colored by the condescending, elitist, and partisan analysis by chief political analyst John Dickerson, who predicted “fuel is out there” in the form of desire for “violence” by Trump supporters after the election and thus suffer from an “irreconcilable problem.”

the following month, Houck similarly groused that Dickerson “was tasked on Wednesday’s CBS Mornings with explaining how Donald Trump pulled off his Grover Cleveland impression the previous night. As Dickerson tells it, the country had a “nostalgia for a past that didn’t exist” and wondered if sexism had anything to do with it.”

Houck didn’t disprove anything Dickerson said, no matter how “condescending, elitist, and partisan” he believed it was. Throw in “pompous” too, since that was a keyword for MRC critics to use during Dickerson’s stint as Evening News co-anchor. When Dickerson took over, Geoffrey Dickens huffed that the “obnoxious outbursts” from Dickerson meant that “the leftist tilt in the evenings will continue unabated.” Cue the MRC’s reguar ranting at Dickerson, with an emphasis on his purported “pompous” behavior:

  • CBS’s John Dickerson Blames Trump, Elon, and AMERICA for Ruining Spring (“utterly pretentious piffle” and “grandiloquent pomposity” that “indulges the ego of” Dickerson)
  • CBS’s John Dickerson Hypocritically Laments Trump Wields and Seeks to Further Expand Presidential Power
  • CBS’s Dickerson Ties Rural Healthcare, Suicide to Medicaid Changes in Big, Beautiful Bill
  • CBS’s Dickerson Uses 71 Years Since Fall of McCarthy as Veiled Attack on Trump’s ‘Cruelty’ (“another popmpous commentary”)
  • CBS’s Dickerson Dismisses Big, Beautiful Bill as DOOOOM for the Poor (“political and snide”)
  • POMPOUS: Dickerson Concern-Trolls Trump Over Deportation Exceptions
  • POMPOUS: John Dickerson Whines About Trump’s Decision Making Processes
  • ‘DADDY’ ISSUES: CBS’s John Dickerson Has Thoughts About Trump at NATO
  • POMPOUS: CBS’s John Dickerson WHINES About New White House Ballroom
  • ‘We Have Thoughts’: CBS’s John Dickerson Whines Trump Didn’t Arrest Putin
  • POMPOUS: Dickerson Whines Over Trump Invoking the Insurrection Act

When Dickerson annouced at the end of October that he would be leaving the Evening News at the end of the year, Geoffrey Dickens wrote in an Oct. 27 post:

On Monday, CBS Evening News co-anchor John Dickerson announced he is leaving the network at the end of the year.

His departure may have something to do with the new CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, taking over. Dickerson’s resignation comes on the heels of a leftist CBS news producer quitting. Even though Weiss is a liberal, the fact that she isn’t all the way woke may be too much for Dickerson.

Weiss is a “liberal”? That’s news to us — and, of course, he offered no evidence to back up the claim. Still, he went on to grumgle that “Dickerson has been a hater of President Donald Trump and a cheerleader for Democrats like former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris,” offering a list of “some of the worst takes (via the MRC archives) from the soon-to-be ex-anchor.”
