From Shutdown To Stephen Miller, MRC Rages That Online News Aggregators Aren’t Far-Right Enough

Posted on February 3, 2026

Another area where the Media Research Center has declared war is online news aggregators, whom the MRC complains aren’t right-wing enough. Typical is an Sept. 30 article by Gabriela Pariseau:

It is not looking good for Democrats after they refused to compromise on a deal to fund the government in the upcoming months, but as per usual, their favorite fixer, Google, is on it.

On Tuesday, the search giant’s publishing arm, Google News, propped up a whole host of leftist sources, including NPR, Politico and The New York Times, which deflected Democrats’ role in forcing a likely government shutdown in Google’s Top stories. Not a single right-leaning news outlet appeared on the Google News home page.

In its “Top Stories” section, Google included an NPR piece headlined “Government to shut down after midnight barring last minute breakthrough in Congress.” In the article, NPR arranged its framing to paint Democrats as caring and altruistic for attempting to extend funding for Obamacare — all the while smearing President Donald Trump as a bigot who won’t compromise.

The outlet specifically complained about a meme video Trump posted on Truth Social. “He posted a racist AI-generated video on social media,” the author wrote, adding: “This was accompanied by a vulgar, crudely deep-faked voiceover of Schumer denigrating Democrats.”

Pariseau did not explain why Trump’s racist “meme video” should not be news. Nebertheless, she huffed: “Google’s promotion of leftist sources comes after Senate Democrats failed to pass all 12 appropriations bills and are now threatening not to pass a continuing resolution that would extend government funding through Nov. 21.” She also failed to explain why mainstream news sources have suddenly become “leftist.”

Parieseau followed with an Oct. 2 article:

Apple and Microsoft joined Google on Wednesday in ignoring right-leaning news about the government shutdown.

All three Big Tech aggregator websites failed to include right-leaning news sources on Wednesday and instead propped up the leftist, legacy media. Apple News, Google News and MSN News collectively shared articles from leftist sources like ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, Reuters, The Associated Press, The Guardian and Axios, each of which framed their stories in such a way that blamed Republicans for the current government shutdown and highlighted the human cost.

Apple, Google and MSN’s promotion of leftist sources comes after Senate Democrats refused to pass a continuing resolution that would extend government funding through Nov. 21.

Note that Pariseau has dismissed mainstream media outlets as “leftist” while unambiguously right-wing outlets — whom Pariseau refused to identify — are merely “right-leaning.” That’s the kind of bias only a right-wing activist would serve up.

Tom Olohan skipped to a different subject — though the same targer — in an Oct. 6 post:

Google viciously smeared a key Trump advisor while he was fighting to secure a potentially historic peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians and engaged in a high-stakes battle to reopen the federal government.

Google has been working overtime to send users to websites dripping with disdain for Stephen Miller, Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy. Google repeatedly elevated Miller’s Wikipedia page, which does not even pretend to be neutral. The search giant went on to promote the Southern Poverty Law Center’s far-left agitprop on Miller above even a White House link, while adding a side of unhinged media headlines.

Olohan provided no reason why Miller should not be held in disdain; instead, he uncritically quoted his boss:

In response to the search behemoth’s overwhelming indulgence of leftist ravings, MRC Free Speech America VP Dan Schneider said, “It’s obvious to me that Google is scraping the internet to dredge up whatever shameless websites will lob these false and vicious attacks against Stephen Miller. Why? Google is falling in line with recent Democrat attacks and trying to derail an effective member in the Trump administration and undermine Trump’s prospects for achieving Middle East peace and a good outcome for America at home.”

Olohan also laughably insisted without justification that the Daily Beast is “radical.”
