WorldNetDaily’s parroting of the government narrative on the death of Renee Good continued in a Jan. 8 article by Bob Unruh uncritically repeating Vice President J.D. Vance’s take on it:
The issue has flared this week because the federal government dispatched Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to Minneapolis to apply federal border law against members of the Somali community and others, and one woman, in protest, drove her vehicle toward ICE officers.
Fearing a threat to their lives, one responded with gunfire and the woman was killed.
[…]Vance also took aim at the media for its one-sided reporting, which has been going on since before President Trump’s first term.
He said the narrative that the ICE officer murdered the protester is out of line.
“The reason his woman is dead is because she tried to ram somebody with her car and he [the officer] acted in self-defense,” he said.
In fact, the ICE agent fired at least two of three shots at Good from the side of her vehicle as it veered past him, according to analysis of the video, making the argument that Good was murdered by the ICE agent hav at least some basis in reality, not “out of line.”
Unruh did not include any non-government viewpoints in his article. Still, WND stuck to the approved narrative, as detailed in an anonymously written Jan. 9 article:
AlphaNews has released what it says is cellphone footage from the perspective of the ICE agent who shot and killed protester Renee Good in Minneapolis as she blocked the roadway.
Vice President JD Vance remarked on the video: “Watch this, as hard as it is. Many of you have been told this law enforcement officer wasn’t hit by a car, wasn’t being harassed, and murdered an innocent woman. The reality is that his life was endangered and he fired in self defense.”
Again, that’s not an accurate description of what happened, and neither Vance nor WND have corrected the record.
