Alan Dershowitz has served as a loyal talking head for Newsmax ever since it made a documentary attempting to clear him of unsavory connections to Jeffrey Epstein (beyond serving as his lawyer, of course). This continued in a Feb. 21 appearance, in which Dershowitz surprisingly defended the Clintons and Epstein’s name was not even mentioned until the eighth paragraph:
Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax on Saturday that he expects Bill and Hillary Clinton to answer questions under oath in upcoming House Oversight Committee depositions, predicting they will answer truthfully.
Dershowitz told Newsmax’s “Saturday Agenda” that “No, they’re not going to take the fifth at all,” predicting that the Clintons, who will soon testify under oath before the House Oversight Committee, will “answer every question honestly.”
The Oversight Committee said in a Feb. 3 press release that Hillary Clinton is scheduled to appear for a deposition on Feb. 26, 2026, and Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear on Feb. 27, 2026.
CBS News reported that the depositions are expected to take place in Chappaqua, New York, behind closed doors, and that “neither has been accused of wrongdoing.”
Asked what lawmakers might press the Clintons on, Dershowitz said he believes the testimony will reinforce what he framed as existing public understanding: “It’s going to show that what we already know, Hillary Clinton probably almost never met him.”
Dershowitz said, “She’s not in any way involved,” and then drew a distinction between the former secretary of state and the former president, saying, “And Bill Clinton knew him through his charities.”
That runs counter to a claim made the same day by Republican Rep. Glenn Grothman, who declared that “I think Bill and Hillary don’t have a reputation for being 100% honest under oath.”
Dershowitz came to the defense of President Trump’s bombing of Iran in a March 1 appearance:
President Donald Trump’s decision to launch a surprise military strike against Iran is constitutional and not in violation of federal law, Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Sunday on Newsmax while rejecting claims from “dead wrong” critics that the action amounts to an illegal war.
“The Constitution gives the president of the United States the sole authority to be commander in chief of the army, the naval forces, but Article I says declaring war is within the power of Congress,” Dershowitz told Newsmax’s Greta Van Susteren during special coverage of the strikes on Iran.
[…]Turning to the broader implications for the Middle East, Dershowitz said he believes confronting Iran could ultimately promote regional peace.
“This is long in coming. This will help promote peace in the Middle East,” he said. “There’s widespread consensus that unless Iran has a change of regime, there will never be peace in the Middle East.
Dershowitz tried to downplay the Epstein scandal after Trump’s firing of Pam Bondi in an April 5 appearance:
Ousted Attorney General Pam Bondi was unfairly criticized over the handling of materials related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, as the controversy is “way, way, way overstated,” Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said on Newsmax’s “Sunday Report.”
“I think she got a bum rap on the Epstein matter,” Dershowitz said. “Look, when all the files in Epstein finally come out, there’s going to be a yawn of disappointment.”
Dershowitz said the public expectations surrounding the case will not match the eventual disclosures.
“We’re going to find out there was no pedophilia. We’re going to find out there was no trafficking,” he said.
“There were four categories of people: victims, real victims, not that many young people,” he added. “Then people who came back over and over again for their $150, $250, then people who helped recruit other young people, and then people who never heard of Epstein, just came in and collected the $50,000 and went away.”
[…]He also said claims involving President Donald Trump have not been substantiated.
“There’s nothing there, nothing there about Donald Trump, nothing there about [former President Bill] Clinton, nothing there about prominent people,” Dershowitz said.
Given that very little about Trump’s involvement with Epstein — the department of Justice’s releases of the Epstein files have largely excluded the one mentioning Trump — Dershowitz really doesn’t have a basis on which to make that claim.
