WND’s Unruh Attacks Colo. Governor, Sec. Of State To Distract From Peters’ Crimes

Posted on June 4, 2026

WorldNetDaily’s efforts to whitewash the crimes of Colorado election official Tina Peters continued in a Dec. 31 article by Bob Unruh attacking the state’s governor, with help from President Trump:

There likely will be astute observers of American politics that might make a leap of faith and presume that Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a radical leftist and open homosexual who has promoted the LGBT lifestyle choices in Colorado to the point officials have violated the constitutional rights of state residents, isn’t going to be on any list of President Donald Trump’s favorites.

Nor is it likely that Colorado is going to suddenly be granted random special privileges by the federal government through programs of the Executive Branch. It might even be in line for investigations.

That’s after the commander-in-chief of the nation’s military, its Executive Branch chief, its president, suggested Polis can “rot in Hell.”

On social media, Trump posted, “God Bless Tina Peters, who is now, for two years out of nine, sitting in a Colorado Maximum Security Prison, at the age of 73, and sick, for the ‘crime’ of trying to stop the massive voter fraud that goes on in her State (where people are leaving in record numbers!). Hard to wish her a Happy New Year, but to the Scumbag Governor, and the disgusting ‘Republican’ (RINO!) DA, who did this to her (nothing happens to the Dems and their phony Mail In Ballot System that makes it impossible for a Republican to win an otherwise very winnable State!). I wish them only the worst. May they rot in Hell. FREE TINA PETERS!”

The fight is over Peters, the former clerk in Mesa County, Colorado, who was convicted in the leftist state and given an extra-judicial scolding by a leftist judge for her efforts to secure the records from that dispute 2020 presidential election.

She was sentenced to nine years on charges alleging she tampered with voting equipment to preserve those records.

But Peters was not trying to preserve election records — she tried to concoct a conspiracy theory about election fraud in her Colorado county, and the passwords to the election system Peters gave out ended up being posted on a right-wing blog. Peters also allowed a security card accessing the Mesa County election system to be misused by a fellow election denier, and was then deceptive about who that person was. Unruh also failed to explain why his repeated insistence that Polis is an “open homosexual” has to do with anything.

Unruh lashed out at Polis again — once more obsessing over his sexual orientation — in a March 4 article:

Gov. Jared Polis of Colorado, a far-left Democrat who openly promotes his homosexual lifestyle choice and even has allowed his state agencies to persecute Christians for their biblical beliefs on the topic, long has been under pressure to offer relief to Tina Peters, a former GOP county clerk who fought what she believed was election corruption in the 2020 presidential vote.

She ended up being sentenced to nine years in prison by the Democrat system in her state.

But Polis now has indicated help may be coming for her.

In fact, there was no corruption in Peters’ county; she was trying to invent some. In fact, prosecutors and the judge pointed out that Peters was trying to make herself famous by promoting fraud claims, something Unruh does not dispute. Unruh continued:

“Last week, former State Senator Sonya Jaquez Lewis was sentenced to probation and community service after being convicted of four felonies including Attempt to Influence a Public Official. She made a horrible mistake, and she was wrong. I hope she learns from this and can rebuild her life. As someone who has known Sonya as a friend for many years, on a personal level I was glad to hear she isn’t going to prison which is a hard place for anyone, no less a retired 68-year old pharmacist,” Polis said on social media.

“But it is not lost on me that she was convicted of the exact same felony charge as Tina Peters — attempting to influence a public official — and yet Tina Peters, as a non-violent first time offender got a nine year sentence. Justice in Colorado and America needs to be applied evenly, you never know when you might need to depend on the rule of law. This is the context I am using as I consider cases like this that have sentencing disparities, which is why I have extended the deadline for clemency applications until April 3rd. I will be making decisions on these cases throughout the remainder of my governorship.”

Polis has been under pressure in the Peters case since before President Donald Trump granted her a full pardon. At the time, Colorado officials said Peters was convicted of a state offense regarding election system integrity so Trump’s decision didn’t matter.

Unruh framed Polis’ possible change of heart on Peters as a reaction to the “scandal” involving Lewis. He then went on to justify Peters’ crimes by invoking another bogus claim:

Peters, the report claimed, “was convicted of orchestrating a data breach scheme based on false claims about voting machine fraud in the 2020 presidential race.”

That election actually was the result of undue influences from Mark Zuckerberg’s contribution of $400 million plus to local election officials who often used the cash to recruit Democrat voters, and the FBI’s decision to interfere by falsely claiming that scandalous information about the Bidens found in an abandoned laptop computer was Russian disinformation.

In fact, more Republican-controlled counties applied for and got money from Zuckerberg’s foundation, though more money went to Democratic-controlled counties. Unruh didn’t explain why it’s a bad thing for more people to be involved in the election process. Unruh went on to whine:

Meanwhile, Peters has claims pending that the leftist judge to openly scolded and berated her for her opinions, “violated her First Amendment rights by punishing her for making allegations about election fraud,” the report said.

It was Matt Barrett, the judge in Peters’ case, who unleashed his own political opinions under the guise of a sentencing statement, wildly claiming Peters was a “charlatan” and a danger.

Unruh did not counter that claim, which tells us that he can’t and that he agrees with this assessment of Peters.

Unruh attacked another state official on behalf of Peters in a March 6 article:

The scandal-plagued state secretary of State in Colorado who is known to have posted hundreds of state elections systems passwords online and avoided any punishment whatsoever now is named in a federal complaint charging violations of federal elections law.

Jena Griswold, a devout Democrat who orchestrated a case against former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters, a Republican, when Peters tried to preserve documentation of her suspicions of vote irregularities in the 2020 election and was sentenced to nine years in jail, has been accused in a complaint from United4Freedom.

The nonpartisan group dedicated to “restoring the fundamental right of every American citizen to representative government,” said its formal administrative complaint was filed under the Help America Vote Act of 2002.

It alleges “systemic violations of federal election law involving post-certification alterations to Colorado’s statewide voter registration database.”

In fact, it was an employee in Griswold’s office who posted the passwords and not Griswold herself, the posting was done inadvertently because they were hidden within the posted document, then taken down shortly after the incident was discovered. So, no, they’re not the same as what Peters did. Unruh should stop trying to claim otherwise.
