WorldNetDaily wasn’t the only ConWeb outlet to give President Trump a pass for spreading an image likening himself to Jesus. Nicholas Fondacaro bitterly ranted in his April 14 hate-watch of “The View” that “nagging crone” Joy Behar “suggested that Jesus Christ would be “narcissistic” if he had acknowledged he was the Messiah.” Fondacaro eventually admitted that this discussion “was sparked by President Trump’s now-deleted Truth Social post where many argued that he was portrayed like Jesus,” but he made sure not to bring up his opinion into it.
Tim Graham similarly complained about the reaction to Trump’s post:
President Trump’s bizarre Truth Social repost with a painting implying he was a miraculous healer like Jesus made all the front pages on Tuesday with “allegations of blasphemy”: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. Why? Because they deeply hope offended Catholics and Christians will punish Trump and Republicans in the midterm elections.
On Monday, ABC and CBS led their evening newscasts with it, and NBC made it story #2. CBS Mornings opened the show in part with Jon Stewart joking about how he looked like the man Trump was miraculously healing.
Graham didn’t actually complain about the post itself. Mark Finkelstein joined in as well:
On Tuesday’s Morning Joe, MS NOW’s Joe Scarborough slipped into full sermon mode—lecturing viewers on Christianity while accusing Donald Trump of committing “unforgivable” blasphemy over a social media post featuring an image apparently portraying him as Jesus.
It’s more than a little weird to see the leftists who sound like ACLU fans who want to separate the church and state get so excited about blasphemy, when they don’t really mind God being mocked by leftist standup comedians from Bill Maher on down.
But they want to play up how offensive this was to Christians.
[…]Co-host Willie Geist piled on, asserting that Trump’s post was “just the definition of blasphemy,” while suggesting Trump “doesn’t understand religion” and posted it out of ignorance.
Finkelstein also refused to offer his opinion on Trump’s post, instead staying on his right-wing message: “In the end, it was classic MS NOW: confident moralizing, shaky on the religion.”
We’re guessing that the MRC would not be so eager to avoid passing judgment if the person who posted the Jesus meme was a Democrat.
