In sharp contrast to its repeated ridicule of Virginia’s statewide vote on redistricting, WorldNetDaily took a decidedly different view of a redistricting attempt in Florida. Joe Kovacs wrote in an April 29 article:
A Democrat in Florida’s House of Representatives who is running for U.S. Senate used a bullhorn Wednesday to blast a congressional redistricting bill that would create up to four new Republican seats for the Sunshine State.
Saying “I will not allow you to destroy our democracy,” state Rep. Angie Nixon of Jacksonville shouted just as a final vote was taking place: “This is a violation of the Constitution! It is! It’s a violation of the Constitution.
Sporting a pink outfit matching her pink bullhorn, she admitted: “I’m out of order, but what y’all are doing is illegal!”
The measure overwhelmingly passed, by a vote of 83-28, advancing to the state Senate.
Jacksonville resident Alex Holmes said of Nixon: “She’s from my district and she is a disaster! The district looks like [poop emoji] and she just totally ignored it so she could go fight for illegals at detention centers! She’s another Jasmine Crockett!”
Of course, Kovacs made no attempt to fact-check Holmes. More importantly, he did not hurl any of the invective against the Virginia redistricting — calling it a “scheme” of “gerrymandering” designed for “political persuasion,” among other things — against the Florida redistricting plan, nor did Kovacs note that the Florida redistricting would not go to a vote of the people like it did in Virginia. Indeed, Kovacs published no criticism of the plan that wasn’t centered on ridicule, and he tried to justify Florida’s redistricting:
Wednesday’s vote in the Florida House came hours after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a lower court’s order demanding Louisiana create a second black-majority congressional district was unconstitutional, giving President Trump and Republicans a massive victory and posing possible complications for a number of state congressional maps, as WorldNetDaily reported.
That’s what’s called right-wing bias, but you knew that already.
