WND Hypes Trump’s Endorsement Of Paxton In Texas Senate Race

Posted on August 19, 2026

WorldNetDaily made sure to tout President Trump’s “powerful” endorsement of Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate primary in a May 19 article by Joe Kovacs:

In the high-profile Republican runoff for U.S. Senate in Texas, President Donald Trump on Tuesday endorsed state Attorney General Ken Paxton over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.

Calling Paxton “an America First Patriot, and someone who has always been extremely loyal to me and our AMAZING MAGA MOVEMENT,” Trump said on Truth Social that he knows Ken well, and he has “seen him tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and he is a WINNER!”

[…]

Trump explained: “John Cornyn is a good man, and I worked well with him, but he was not supportive of me when times were tough and, despite having the Most Successful Economy in the History of our Country during my First Term and, with all of the many other things that I accomplished (Secure Border, Military Dominance, Space Force, All Time High Stock Markets and 401(k)s, Record Job and Economic Growth, and so many other things that would be impossible to readily list!), which are considered by many to be legendary, John was very late in backing me in what turned out to be a Historic Run for the Republican Nomination, and then, the Presidency, itself, both of which were Landslide Victories and, more importantly, gave us the Country that we have today — THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA … .”

Paxton is thrilled with the news, saying: “I am incredibly honored to have President Trump’s COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT. No one has ever fought harder for the American people than President Trump, and I look forward to championing his America First agenda in the Senate!”

No mention was made of Paxton’s history of adultery; the closest Kovacs came was quoting John Yoo, of all people, pointing out that “The Republican Party’s gonna have to spend tens and tens of millions of dollars that they wouldn’t have to spend otherwise because, I hate to say it, but Paxton’s a very flawed candidate. He was impeached, almost convicted. He’s had a lot of problems, both financial and personal, and this could be a loss that would be an easy win if the president had just endorsed the incumbent.” But he also added how a Fox News host deflected from it:

Fox News contributor Kennedy responded to Yoo’s concern, saying: “Paxton may be a flawed candidate, but Talarico is as well. He’s one of this people that on first blush might seem attractive, but then if you start parsing some of the statements that he has made, Texas is still a red state, and there are a lot of voters there who aren’t going to put up with his hypocrisy. So I think Paxton is still in a good position and it definitely means something to have the president’s endorsement. This is no small thing.”

When Paxton won the primary, Kovacs returned to gush in a May 26 article:

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday cruised to victory in the high-profile Republican runoff for the U.S. Senate seat from Texas over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.

Paxton was projected the winner by the Associated Press an hour after polls closed with 62.5% of the vote, compared to 37.5% with 45% of ballots counted.

Cornyn has been in office for 23 years and quickly conceded defeat.

Paxton, who was outspent by Cornyn 9-to-1, will now face Democrat James Talarico in the general election in November, as Talarico previously defeated U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democrat primary.

Kovacs rehashed Trump’s endorsement of Paxton, adding: “Trump has now endorsed eight governors, 103 House representatives and nine Senate candidates in 2026 races, with a 100% success rate.” He made no mention of Paxton’s history of adultery.

Kovacs promoted Paxton’s boasting about his election prospects in a May 31 article:

Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says he is not expecting a difficult race against Democrat James Talarico for U.S. Senate, despite polls showing tight margins and an expected surge of massive campaign cash from leftists pushing Talarico in the Lone Star State.

Appearing on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo on the Fox News Channel, Paxton said, “I think it’s pretty easy to do in Texas because this guy doesn’t represent Texas values.Kovacs I’m not even sure he could get elected in California. His views are so radical, once exposed.”

“He’s trying to walk them back right now: his vegan campaign views, his saying the American flag is a complicated symbol, his talking about God being non-binary and pushing men into women’s sports. The list goes on and this isn’t just me making this up. This is what he actually said, and now he’s complaining that I’m quoting him with his strange, weird comments.”

Kovacs did not explain how, exactly, one’s campaign views could be “vegan.” Instead, he hyped how Paxton was ” strongly endorsed by President Donald Trump” and sought to help him whitewash the notion that he’s “scandal-plagued”: “That was all pushed by Karl Rove, and I understand how that works, and I get why they said that. But the reality is they could say the same thing about Donald Trump.” Kovacs did not note the nature of the scandals involving Paxton.
