The Media Research Center’s extensive grumbling that President Trump’s UFC match on the White House grounds didn’t reach its preferred Trump Regime Media levels of praise continued in a June 16 post by P.J. Gladnick:
On Monday, Atlantic Magazine published a story that could have served as a script outline for an SCTV skit. In fact, it even sounded like a parody to the author of the piece, Gal Beckerman, since he admitted the absurdity his own premise, “The Theory That Explains Trump’s UFC Fight.”
“I am aware that bringing a French structuralist to a cage fight borders on self-parody.”
And Beckerman certainly does sound like he is writing parody by trying to explain the perceived meaning behind the UFC 250 fights at the White House on Sunday night by citing a philosopher.
[…]Beckerman should not be surprised if he ends up the object of much mockery for writing this piece. Even he has enough self-awareness to observe the parody ready silliness of his Libsplaining premise.
Interestingly, Gladnick made no attempt to defend Trump’s UFC event by, you know, rightsplaining it.
Intern Siena Do sought to deflect by a UFC fighter’s insult of Michelle Obama:
One of the most famous moments from Sunday’s highly-anticipated UFC Championship show outside the White House was when fighter Josh Hokit said into the microphone, “Michelle Obama is a man!”
The moment went viral and prompted plenty of left-wing media meltdowns, including a segment from Monday’s episode of MS NOW’s The Last Word, where host Lawrence O’Donnell all but sobbed as he sought “spiritual guidance” from Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia about how to handle those five mean words that had nothing to do with him:
[…]O’Donnell just said himself that Hokit referred to Michelle Obama “specifically… by name,” but Warnock took it personally and roped millions of people in with him. No one thought Hokit was insulting all African Americans except for Warnock, which points to a problem with the Senator more than the comment itself.
Hokit’s remark wasn’t even an attack on Michelle Obama as much as Warnock’s next few sentences were attacks on the Trump administration and First Amendment rights that the left claims to love so much:

Never mind that much worse comments have been made about current first lady Melania Trump, which the left ignored while treating Michelle Obama as someone so sacred that no one is allowed to make fun of her. The leftist media didn’t even show this kind of ‘righteous’ indignation when protestors actually desecrated churches. All they did was engage in cover-ups and defend those who attacked those houses of worship.
It’s important to note that Do refused to criticize Hokit for his insult.
Comedy cop Alex Christy whined in a June 18 post:
During Wednesday’s episode of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show host-of-the-week Jordan Klepper showed his most recent man-on-the-street experience designed to make Trump supporters look dumb. This time Klepper and his interviewees were looking ahead to the UFC fight at the White House, which Klepper used to compare Trump to the infamous Roman emperors Nero and Caligula.
In a voiceover, Klepper declared, “Of course, there is a very real historical precedent to spectacles like this.”
One man said of the UFC fight, “Kinda going back to gladiators. It feels gladiatorial,” while a second echoed the sentiment, “The Romans loved it and the Greeks loved it. Everybody loves some kind of gladiator.”
Klepper then tried to set up a third man, “Is it, sort of, like our Colosseum? Like, we all come together—” After the man claimed that was a valid way of looking at it, Klepper started his dive into Roman analogies, “The emperor is giving us bread and circus.”
Unfortunately, the man gave Klepper the soundbite he wanted by simply replying, “Yup.” Klepper then elaborated, “Yeah. Yeah. Or Monster drinks and circus.”
“Bread and circus” is meant to be an insult on how authoritarian leaders distract the public with spectacles and amusement while citizens stop caring about more pressing matters. Klepper and other late night shows that do man-on-the-street interviews do not do so because they are looking to have scholarly conversations. They cherry-pick what they think are the dumbest soundbites and then use those to paint tens of millions of people as stupid.
You mean like how Christy and his fellow MRCers cherry-pick their preferred soundbites to paint tens of millions of people who don’t support Trump as stupid? Christy went on to run to Trump’s defense yet again:
Caligula was also a paranoid and murderous dictator. As for the sports themselves, the main difference between the UFC and ancient gladiatorial fights is, of course, that UFC fights are not to the death and the UFC fight was a one-time occasion. Klepper is well within his rights to not be a combat sports fan, but comparisons to Nero and Caligula are wildly out of proportion to what actually happened on Sunday.
So Christy is giving Trump a pass for holding a brutal event on White House grounds because it was supposedly only a one-time event and wasn’t as bad as gladiator fights? Please.
