Newsmax has long been a booster of Rudy Giuliani — giving him frequent TV hits to bloviate about the issues of the day (as well as the defamation lawsuit he lost), running a legal defense fund for him, and letting him have a show on its streaming channel. And Newsmax started the year letting him serve up much of that same bloviating:
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Engoron a ‘Political Hack’
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Hunter Going for ‘Maximum Circus Effect’
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Georgia DA, Partner ‘Bilking the State’
- Rudy Giuliani to Newsmax: Judge Kaplan a Disgrace
- Rudy Giuliani to Newsmax: ‘Incompetent’ Biden Looks Like ‘Weakling, Dope’
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Fani Willis Ruling an ‘Outrage’
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Ruling on Fani Willis ‘Couldn’t Possibly Be’ Right
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Yes, AOC, ‘RICO Is Absolutely a Crime’
- Rudy Giuliani to Newsmax: N.Y. AG, Judge Engoron ‘Out of Control’
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Bail Laws Key to Cop’s Death
- Giuliani to Newsmax: NYC Mayor’s Crime Policies Are Lax
- Giuliani to Newsmax: US Missing ‘Historic Opportunity’ Against Iran
- Giuliani Slams Columbia Protesters: ‘Misguided People’
- Giuliani to Newsmax: Arizona’s Targeting Lawyers ‘Fascist’
There was no writeup we could find of a January Newsmax appearance by Giuliani in which he unhelpfully tried to parse whether Donald Trump was guilty of rape or sexual assault.
By the way, that last one, from April 25, is the most recent writeup of a Giuliani TV hit we could find on the Newsmax website. Why? Probably because of all the legal peril Giuliani continues to place himself into in the wake of his being ordered to pay $148 million to two Georgia election workers he falsely claimed were manipulating ballots. Newsmax has reported on some of this:
- Bankruptcy Filing: Giuliani Owes More Than $1M in Taxes
- Giuliani Seeking New Trial After Bankruptcy Judge Lets Him Fight $148M Ga. Verdict (wire article)
A March 25 article by James Morley III also addressed some of it as well:
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said he is living in a “nightmare world” and cannot believe it’s real, according to sources exclusive to Page Six.
Last week during a fundraising event at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, the onetime Trump attorney was overheard lamenting his current bankruptcy due to multiple debts and mounting legal bills.
An attendee overheard Giuliani say he’s in a “nightmare world” and that “he wakes up every day and can’t believe it’s real,” Page Six reported.
Giuliani is facing multiple legal and financial troubles stemming from a $148 million verdict in Georgia in December. Judge Beryl Howell ruled that Giuliani had defamed mother and daughter Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss after he falsely accused them of committing voter fraud while counting ballots in Fulton County during the 2020 election.
Morley didn’t mention that this is a “nightmare” of Giuliani’s own creation. Indeed, the day before, Newsmax published a wire article noting that Giuliani was among “those indicted in Arizona in the state’s election interference case.” Newsmax posted a few articles about the aftermath of that indictment:
- Rudy Giuliani Served Indictment at 80th Birthday Party
- Giuliani Pleads Not Guilty in Arizona Election Case
- Giuliani Grins in Mugshot For Ariz. Fake Electors Case
Meanwhile, Newsmax has been quiet on other areas where Giuliani is floundering. It was reported in January that one legal defense fund for him had raised less than $1 million from just 13 donors. In May, Giuliani’s show on a New York City radio station was canceled because he kept spreading false claims about the 2020 election. And Newsmax itself may be on the verge of doing the same, Mediaite reported:
Rudy Giuliani is on the brink of losing yet another paycheck just days after being axed from his six-figure WABC radio gig over his inability to stop spewing election conspiracy theories.
Several sources at Newsmax said the fate of Giuliani’s show on the conservative network’s streaming platform is up in the air. Top brass, which has raised alarms about his election rhetoric, are considering whether to pull the show and drop the former mayor of New York altogether.
Giuliani regularly pushes election conspiracy theories on his Newsmax2 show America’s Mayor Live, but those comments are edited out in post-production over fears they could expose the network to further liability as it faces major defamation lawsuits over its coverage of the 2020 election, sources said.
Losing his Newsmax show would deal another blow to Giuliani, who is facing serious financial and legal peril. Two insiders confirmed he is being paid between $100,000 and $150,000 per year for the show.[…]
Ted Goodman with Giuliani issued a statement to Mediaite on Thursday via email, “Mayor Giuliani enjoys a fantastic relationship with Newsmax and its audience. Newsmax has grown into the successful network it is today, because its audience knows it is getting accurate and relevant information on the news that matters. We appreciate Mr. Ruddy and Newsmax’s commitment to free speech and allowing a vast array of views and perspectives on the air.”
On top of that, it looks like Giuliani’s creditors in his bankruptcy proceedings will be looking to subpoena Newsmax over financial records related to Giuliani.
