MRC Finished Out 2024 With More Anti-DEI Ranting

Posted on March 24, 2025

The Media Research Center spent the first half of 2024 slavishly parroting right-wing anti-DEI talking points, and it finished out the year the same way, starting with cheering anti-DEI extremist Robby Starbuck’s success in coercing companies to abandon DEI programs:

By contrast, a Sept. 13 post by Tom Olohan labeled one DEI supporter as “a major leftist pressure group,” while right-wing anti-DEI pressure agent Starbuck was labeled only as a “political commentator and podcast host.” There’s more:

When Walmart dropped DEI-related policies — apparently coerced by Starbuck — Olohan cheered in a Nov. 27 post:

One day after political commentator and podcast host Robby Starbuck announced that Walmart had agreed to distance itself from radical diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices, a high-ranking Walmart executive chose to do a legacy media interview. Here’s how that went.

The CEO of Walmart U.S., John Furner appeared on the Nov. 26 edition of CBS Mornings and immediately fielded questions from the show’s co-hosts Tony Dokoupil and Gayle King about the changes. Dokoupil mentioned that Walmart has decided to ensure that no racial discrimination takes place in the name of supplier diversity and that it will end its Center for Racial Equity. But when asked about Why Walmart made the changes, Furner made clear that Walmart was prioritizing customers and said nothing about the demands of the radical left.

Olohan went on to cheer: “As more and more companies reform after Starbuck’s anti-discrimination anti-gender theory campaigns, leftist pushback has fallen on deaf ears.” He didn’t ask what kind of coercion he’s threatening to unleash on those companies.

In a different post that day, Curtis Houck pejoratively labeled supporters of DEI as “the racial activist crowd,” though he did repeat criticism of anti-DEI activists like Starbuck as a “hate mob” filled with “anti-racial justice extremists.”
