MRC Writer Again Complains TV Shows Aren’t As Right-Wing As She Is

Posted on June 21, 2025

Dawn Slusher is the Media Research Center’s writer in charge of complaining that TV shows don’t adhere to right-wing narratives, and she’s been busy this year. In a Jan. 30 post, she complained that a TV show on Fox didn’t hate non-heterosexual people to her satisfaction:

Hello, 911? Can someone please rescue us from a Hollywood Show that’s gone overboard with its desperate attempts to push a liberal agenda? 9-1-1: Lone Star may be coming to a close after being canceled by Fox, but it’s making sure to preach as much woke propaganda as possible on the way out.

The show aired part one of a two-part series finale this week which featured a gay male couple attempting to adopt a young family member, a life-or-death rescue of a non-binary child *after* workers get “their” pronouns straight, an adult trans character “mentoring” said child, and a beloved “Dreamer” character facing deportation after defending himself against a bad cop.

[…]

Watching this week’s episode, “Impact,” felt like those causes were being shoved down our throats with a firehose (pun intended). In addition to the storyline of T.K. and Carlos attempting to adopt a young family member, there was a ridiculous scene with a non-binary teen Jax (played by LGBTQ activist Miles McKenna) hanging on to a raised gate for his life.

Instead of rushing to get to him as fast as possible, there’s dialogue between a firefighter and the kid’s friend about Jax being non-binary and using “they/them” pronouns:

[…]

By the end of the episode, a meteor was heading toward the city as residents braced for impact. Will it wipe everyone out the way 9-1-1: Lone Star and its liberal propaganda have been wiped out by FOX, or will we be subjected to one more hour of left-wing propaganda before the show is over for good?

Slusher whined about another TV show in a March 4 post:

The CW’s sports drama All American has had a long history of race-baiting, pushing liberal propaganda, hating cops, and promoting BLM. So, it really was no surprise to see two characters fawning over the supposedly “cute” former president Obama and his “icon” wife Michelle. That was later followed by a weird quip from a black, lesbian college professor about how it’s sometimes warranted to pour gasoline all over a business and burn “the whole place down.”

We all know Hollywood has had a penchant for uncritical worship of progressive darlings and deifying leftist idols. But Monday’s episode of All American, “I Got a Story to Tell,” was still cringeworthy despite being cliché.

High school student Amina (Alexis Chikaeze) is running for president of her high school student council, and her adult family friend Coop (Bre-Z) brings a box of campaign buttons to her school to help her campaign.

This leads to fawning over the Obamas as if they waltzed into the White House on a runway wearing designer clothes and million-dollar smiles because nothing screams “meritocracy” like gushing over Michelle’s sleeveless dresses:

[…]

Someone should’ve put lighter fluid on this script before it ever made it to air. Not surprisingly, All American has had dismal ratings this season and is second to last among Monday night network shows. Get woke, go broke, as they say. Unfortunately, The CW seems to care more about pushing an agenda than they do in making shows people actually want to watch.

Slusher used a March 6 post to complain about the show “White Lotus”:

Season three of HBO’s hit drama The White Lotus is in full swing, delivering an intriguing, mysterious vibe so far. But just three episodes in, the show went woke with viral scenes depicting a woman shamed by her friends for being a Texas Christian who’s no longer a Democrat and who voted for Trump. Filmed in 2022—before Trump’s second victory—airing was delayed by the 2023 writer’s strike.

[…]

Why do those who trash Christianity and the Bible often know so little about it? Women shine throughout scripture—Mary, Jesus’s mother, is central, and God commands husbands to cherish their wives like the Church. At Jesus’s resurrection, women weren’t “crying on the sidelines”; they were entrusted with witnessing and reporting the empty tomb, a pivotal role God gave to women alone.

Slusher groused about a reality show in an April 8 post:

Netflix’s Love is Blind has been a hit for eight seasons, but Season 8 took a sharp turn into politics, a stark contrast to its past. Couples debated George Floyd, Black Lives Matter, abortion, gay marriage, and Christianity’s stance on LGBTQ issues. It’s hard not to wonder if producers pushed these talks, especially since conservatives consistently ended up as the villains.

[…]

Politics decided fates at the altar. Sara dumped Ben (despite calling him “perfect”) over his church’s anti-LGBTQ stance and apathy toward her causes, including “the vaccine.”

Slusher didn’t explain why being an anti-vaxxer is not a valid reason for getting dumped. Instead, she concluded by huffing: “Love may be blind, but it’s obviously not tolerant or kind if you’re with a liberal.” Not that Slusher has shown an ounce of tolerance in her posts for people, real and fictional, who aren’t as right-wing as she is.
