WorldNetDaily’s Bob Unruh claimed in an Oct. 27 article:
A sitting Democrat senator has threatened “legal jeopardy” for members of the U.S. Armed Forces being dispatched by President Donald Trump to fight the drug war for Americans.
The comments come from Mark Kelly, an Arizona Democrat, who was interviewed this weekend about the president’s efforts to eliminate the flood of illegal and deadly drugs being smuggled into the United States by cartels intent on making money and allowing Americans to die in the process.
“Is Kelly, a veteran who served as a Navy pilot in the Gulf War and as a NASA astronaut, trying to encourage mutiny within the ranks to get service members to refuse orders for fear of prosecution by a future Democrat administration?” wondered the Gateway Pundit.
Funny, we don’t remember anyone at WND getting in trouble for giving military man Terry Lakin a platform and egging on his refusal to follow lawful orders by refusing an assignment to Afghanistan because he didn’t have what he considered a full answer on whether Obama was a “natural born citizen.” For instance:
- A 2010 article by Bob Unruh gave a platform to Lakin’s attorney, Neal Puckett, who declated that “All those issues concerning the president’s eligibility to hold office are completely irrelevant as to whether Lt. Col. Lakin was issued lawful orders and whether he obeyed them.”
- A 2010 column by David Kupelian stated that “Lakin claims there’s a serious conflict between adhering to his military oath and obeying deployment orders coming down the existing chain of command with Barack Obama at the top – since the president’s constitutional eligibility to be commander in chief has never been documented.”
- A 2011 column by Joseph Faah declared that Lakin is “an officer and a gentleman” who wold “go to prison for trying to get at the truth.”
- A 2013 WND article cheered that right-wing judge Roy Moore was in charge of Lakin’s (failed) appeal because “Moore is on the record questioning Obama’s eligibility.”
- Columnist Jack Cashill co-wrote a book with Lakin telling his deeply flawed side of the story.
While we’re at it, perhaps we can call for the arrests of every person who donated to the Terry Lakin Action Fund, which promoted Lakin’s failed legal crusade — after all, they encouraged and financed Lakin’s quest to deny a lawful order. Donors to the American Patriot Foundation, which also played a role in Lakin’s defense, can be indicted as well.
Rather than bring up any of tyhat unfortunate history — or explain how all these Lakin supporters are supposedly different from Kelly — WND continued to whine about Kelly. Unruh complained in a Nov. 20 article:
Sen. Mark Kelly, a Democrat from Arizona who long has built a reputation as an anti-Trump extremist, is getting scorched online for defending a video he and other leftists, like Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado, made urging a military insurrection in America.
Specifically, they repeatedly warned members of the CIA, the military and more they do not have to obey “illegal” orders, presumably orders with which they disagree politically.
Unruh made no mention of Lakin or WND’s defense of him.
