Mamdani Meltdown Watch, Newsmax Columnist Edition

Posted on April 17, 2026

Jewish New Yorkers aren’t laughing.

Earlier this month, a pro-Hamas mob forced the cancellation of Israeli comedian Guy Hochman’s performance at a Broadway comedy club.

With the group of violent demonstrators blocking the entrance to the venue, the New York Police Department (NYPD) ultimately determined that proceeding with the show posed a public safety risk and decided to put the brakes on the planned event.

The breaking news was celebrated that same evening by The Palestinian Youth Movement, which stated in an online post replete with spelling errors that “New Yorkers are making it clear, genociders (sic) are not welcome in our city!”

It’s no surprise that Jihadi sympathizers are feeling spirited since the Socialist Mayor took office on New Year’s Day.

The anti-Zionist pathology at the core of the young Mayor’s agenda is casting a dangerous chill over the city’s Jewish community.

[…]

The silencing of Jewish New Yorkers is a malleable and deliberate endeavour, with both James and Mamdani behaving as complicit actors who stand ready to use their political levers and slowly unravel the rights of Jewish New Yorkers.

Then there’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who is facing a $10 billion budgetary deficit before he adds in the $8 billion in free stuff he promised to his supporters.

To help balance the mayor’s budget, his confreres in the state Legislature will happily increase the city’s personal and corporate taxes, and Mamdani will gleefully raise property taxes in “white” neighborhoods.

The new socialist Muslim mayor wants to raise, by two percentage points, the city income tax rate on those who earn $1 million or more, up to 5.86% from 3.86%.

This amounts to a stunning 52% increase in the tax rate on million-dollar earners.

Calli, “The Mamdani Millionaire Tax.”

It would arrive on top of a combined city-state income tax rate now at 14.76% for the rich, raising the combo to 16.76%.

This, plus a federal rate of 37% for a total of almost 54% on all earnings over $1 million.

No problem, “Warmth of Collectivism Mamdani” insists, “The top 1% of New York City can afford to contribute $20,000 more in taxes.”

Maybe so.

But New Yorkers who rake in $10 million a year will see a $200,000 hike, and those earning $25 million will have to pay $500,000 more, every year, the Post reports.

And while they can afford to pay it, the evidence shows they will balk at doing so, and this tax hike will encourage more of the richest taxpayers in New York to leave the city.
