WorldNetDaily has been targeting Rep. LaMonica IcIver for some time now. After she was arrested in a protest outside an ICE detention center last May, Bob Unruh declared in a May 16 article:
A new report documents that federal charges are coming for a member of Congress who was part of a leftist team that stormed into an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.
A report from the New Jersey Globe had speculated that charges would be filed against Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., on Friday, but then later updated that to say they apparently will come later.
McIver was part of a “scrum” at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark last week. Multiple protesters, including McIver, barged into the facility against the futile resistance of security officers.
Unurh offered detail on what McIver allegedly did, while stating only that “The Democrats have claimed they did nothing wrong.”
When McIver actually was charged, Unruh devoted numerous paragraphs in a May 20 article to criticizing her alleged actions — including President Trump’s claim that “That woman was out of control” — while allowing only two paragraphs to noting that “McIver took to social media to claim she’s in the right.” Unruh followed with an article the same day quoting ” constitutional expert Jonathan Turley” claiming that “McIver is shown on video forcing her way into an ICE facility and striking and shoving agents in her path.”
In a June 3 column headlined “The Left: Increasingly driven by angry, bitter women,” Don Feder wrote:
Rep. LaMonica McIver, New Jersey Democrat, has been charged with two counts of assault on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent for attempting to break into a Newark detention center on May 9. In a video of the clash, Ms. McIver appears to be in training for the World Wrestling Federation championship.
[…]Once, feminine virtues included modesty, compassion and honor. Feminism has replaced them with vulgarity and aggression.
Thus, McIver has been stereotyped by WND as an angry black woman. WND continued to lash out at McIver for defending herself:
- ‘Political retaliation’: Judge won’t let ICE-storming congresswoman off the hook
- ‘I reclaim my time’: ‘Crazy’ congresswoman fails to get charges dismissed, now goes on 5-minute rant
- ‘Cruelty’: Congresswoman still trying to escape assault charge for her confrontation with federal ICE officer
This culminated with an attack on the way McIver speaks. An anonymously written Feb. 10 article complained that McIver asked acting ICE director Todd Lyons “about his fate on Judgment Day,” but it was headlined “Let me ax you some questions.” Interestingly, that quote is not in the article itself, and it was not disclosed why it was omitted, or why she was singled out for ridicule by putting the quote in a front-page headline.
That appears to be the WND playbook — making fun of black Democrats for the way they speak.
