MRC Continues As Trump Defense Brigade On His Bombing Of Iran

Posted on May 12, 2026

The Media Research Center continued its ranting that President Trump’s bombing of Iran was less than rapturously praised by non-right-wing media:

Alex Christy played comedy cop in a March 3 post:

The late night comedy shows were largely upset on Monday at combat operations against Iran that began on Saturday. Three of the five hosts tried to argue they were simply a distraction from the Epstein files while the others still managed to offer up some underwhelming criticisms.

CBS’s Stephen Colbert declared on The Late Show that, “This military mission has been dubbed Operation Epic Fury… Fun fact: “Epic Fury” is an anagram for ‘Forget Epstein.’”

[…]

At the same time, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel retorted, “Early Saturday morning, just after midnight, the Pentagon launched what they are calling Operation Epic Fury. Which is different from its original title, which was Operation Epstein-o Distract-o.”

[…]

Just like his NBC colleagues at Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Fallon also got in on the Epstein narrative when he conducted a fake interview with Trump on The Tonight Show. Fallon wondered, “Well, so far, you’ve hit nuclear facilities, missile defenses. What do you want to destroy the most?”

In response, a clip of Trump showed him saying, “The Epstein files.”

Christyy then tried to pretend that Trump wasn’t trying to distract from Epstein by bombing Iran:

The most immediate reason why Trump decided on military action was Iran trampling all over his red line about not killing protestors. On The Daily Show, Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart played a mashup of clips from Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth that alluded to this, “It took the 47th president, a fighter who always puts America first, to finally draw the line…It takes guts to actually enforce it, and our president has guts…There’s no better communicator than our president… He has shown an ability to do that other presidents can’t quite seem to have the aperture to do.

Stewart’s response was mockery, “You are right. Nobody’s got the laser focus of one Donald Trump. Let’s go to the president at the White House today giving brief remarks about the war before a Medal of Honor ceremony.”

While Stewart then played a clip of Trump insisting he won’t get “bored,” his casual dismissal of the red line is unfortunate. Later, Stewart interviewed Iranian filmmaker and former prisoner Jafar Panahi. The interview focused solely on the regime’s evils, but in the discussion on how the regime cracks down on dissent, he did not mention Trump’s redline.

Christy made no effort to actually disprove the hosts’ claims that it’s an Epstein distraction. Instead, he huffed:

This operation began as a result of Trump seeking to enforce his redline on the regime’s murderous crackdown on its own people. What happens after is anyone’s guess, but it was not started to distract from the Epstein files, and Trump talking to reporters about it is not a scandal.

The same day, Curtis Houck raged:

Reacting Tuesday to President Trump’s Oval Office comments about the U.S. war against Iran, chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce beclowned herself during an ABC News Special Report with the insistence that Trump’s claim the U.S. alone decided to strike Iran was in contradiction to Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating Monday the U.S. was reacting to Israel’s decision to go first.

Bruce, as usual, was hurling partisan, fact-free drivel with this claim when, in reality, Rubio and Trump both said the U.S. alone made up its mind to go to war alongside Israel and protect American interests, based on intelligence from both countries.

Houck cited only dubious right-wing sources to back up his claim, including far-right radio host Steve Deace. He went on to grouse: “And, given the Trump administration’s reaction to Israel’s strike on Qatar ahead of the landmark peace deal, it’s safe to say Trump isn’t beholden to Israel (or anyone, for that matter).”

Perhaps feeling a bit sensitive to this particular criticism, Craig Bannister followed up with a March 5 propaganda piece:

An Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) lieutenant colonel who was in the meetings when the attack on Iran was being planned says media claims that the U.S. was dragged into the war by Israel are “completely false.”

In an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, IDF Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani debunked the myth perpetrated by liberal legacy media:

“I can say, as someone who’s been in the inner rooms with the IDF, that is not a real claim. It’s not close to the truth.”

…

“I can explicitly say, since I’m an IDF spokesperson, knowing we’ve been planning for weeks and months, saying that Israel decided to attack alone and the U.S. was dragged into it is just completely false.”

“That is not a real claim. It’s not close to the truth,” Shoshani reiterated.

[…]

“America is not one to be dragged by Israel,” the IDF spokesman said.

As NewsBusters has reported, liberal media ranging from ABC to CNN have maliciously misrepresented and edited comments by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in order to dupe Americans into believing that Rubio claimed the U.S. had been dragged into the war with Iran.

Bannister didn’t explain why a foreign military spokesman should be trusted.
