The Media Research Center has long been obsessed with transgender people committing mass shootings. Brad Wilmouith huffed in a Sept. 7 post:
On Friday afternoon, MSNBC host Katy Tur had on Mark Spies of the anti-gun website The Trace to argue against a Donald Trump administration proposal to place gun restrictions on transgenders to help prevent mass shootings. Spies found the idea “insane” and compared it to banning white men from buying guns to prevent suicide.
[…]But, according to research by the right-leaning Crime Prevention Research Center, transgenders make up only about 0.73 percent of the adult population, but about five percent of mass shooting perpetrators between 2018 and 2024 — a rate of about seven times that of non-transgenders.
Wilmouth’s admission that the Crime Prevention Research Center is “right-leaning” doesn’t go far enough. The center’s founder and president is John Lott, notorious for being highly discredited on his key issue, and his assertion that more guns equal less crime has been widely debunked. One of his assistants is Tim Groseclose, a right-wigner whose book on media bias was loved by the Media Research Center but built on shaky methodology.
But when another mass shooting occurred that it could blame on a transgender person, the MRC was once again off to the races. Curtis Houck spewed transphobia in a Feb. 17 post:
On Monday afternoon in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, there was sadly the latest case of trangender violence inflicted on innocents refusing to celebrate their deranged life choices and rejection of basic biology as a man pretending to be a woman stormed his son’s high school hockey game and killed two, injuring three, and dying by suicide.
By Tuesday morning when these facts had come to light, ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS Mornings barely covered it and did the bidding the pro-trans cult by minimizing the shooter’s delusions.
Despite having an editor-in-chief in Bari Weiss who made a name for herself in part by being anti-woke and a believer of basic biology, CBS Mornings only gave it 27 seconds courtesy of a five-sentence news brief from featured co-host Vladimir Duthiers.
The only allusion to the shooter was when he said in the third sentence that CBS’s “Rhode Island affiliate WPRI obtained court records showing that the shooter had a history of conflicts with family, some involving the shooter’s gender identity.”
Duthiers stayed away from having to render judgement on the pronouns, instead calling Dorgan “the shooter.”
But that’s exactly who the shooter was — a shooter. Doesa Houck really want to deny that reality?
The next day, Jorge Bonilla similarly whined that CBS wouldn’t hype the shooter’s transgender identity despite Weiss running the show:
The media hall monitors keep telling us that the Bari Weiss-run CBS Evening News is “MAGA-coded”. It isn’t, but this is the way they signal vice amongst themselves. The reality contains much more than meets the eye. Case in point, the Evening News’ blatant omission of new details in the Pawtucket mass shooting.
The new details, specifically, are that the shooter was transgender, which casts Pawtucket as the latest in a string of trans-fueled mass shootings. CBS omitted the story in its entirety. Instead, they ran the start of the trial of the Georgia school shooter’s father.
[…]To their credit, NBC and ABC both reported the shooter as being a man that also went by a woman’s name. In the recent past, there would’ve been some ambiguity as to how to proceed. Not this time, though.
This was a little too much to handle for the new CBS, which seems to be reacting to the media hall monitors’ false and misleading “MAGA-coded” moniker. While there have been many substantive and welcome changes, it is clear that CBS isn’t even remotely right-wing. Any assertion to the contrary is nothing more than disinformation in service of narrative.
So Bonilla has declared that it’s right-wing to obsess over someone’s transgender identity. Thanks for admitting that, dude.
