MRC’s Acosta Derangement Syndrome Continues Into New Year

Posted on June 24, 2026

The Media Research Center brought its Acosta Derangement Syndrome into the new year with a Jan. 16 post by Curtis Houck:

On Thursday’s episode of the podcast I’ve Had It, co-host and miserable, affluent, white, female liberal (AWFL) Jennifer Welch teamed up with deranged former CNN correspondent Jim Acosta for 79 minutes of dangerous, unhinged lunacy lamenting the state of America that included joking about wanting someone to “choke the living shit out of” CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil, comparing Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) to ISIS, smearing Erika Kirk, and promising mass prosecutions of Republican when Democrats retake power.

It began with Acosta screeching about miserable his life in D.C. has become simply because of who’s President:

[…]

Of course, Acosta went right to Dokoupil’s news brief from January 6 on the fifth anniversary of the Capitol riot, insisting this was proof we should all ask “what the fuck is going on with these people” and America lacks “a free press that can hold the goddamn President of the United States accountable.”

Houck, of course, has been a fierce defender of Dokoupil and his boss, Bari Weiss.

Alex Christy huffed about Acosta weighing in on another another hot button issue in a Jan. 30 post:

After former CNN host Don Lemon was arrested Thursday night for his part in the recent St. Paul church takeover, his former colleague, Jim Acosta, took to his podcast to hurl multiple “fascist” accusations at “MAGA World.” Also on Friday, on Lemon’s own podcasts, his substitute cast would throw in additional Nazi references to echo Acosta’s point.

Speaking with former Capital and D.C. policeman Michael Fanone, Acosta ranted, “It should piss off every American, and it will piss off, I mean, every good patriotic American, non-crazy MAGA Americans will be pissed off about this. In MAGA World, they will whip this up into a frenzy and say, ‘Aha, see,” but that’s because they are part of a fascist movement in this country, and Americans are just not fascists. They’re just not—they don’t want that. And they don’t want journalists getting arrested for doing their jobs. I mean, we’re showing a picture right now, Mike, like he’s holding a microphone. He’s holding a micro—exhibit A, your honor.”

Of course, Fanone was only there to agree, “Yeah, I mean it, you know, you’re right. I think that the vast majority of Americans recognize this for what it is. Obviously, you know, MAGA, it’s, you know, it’s, constitutional rights for me, not for thee. If you oppose the MAGA agenda, if you oppose Donald Trump, and his fascist authoritarian regime, then you don’t deserve constitutional rights, which obviously is not up to them to determine, but in their mind, it is.”

While Fanone wants to accuse “MAGA” of being hypocritical on who gets constitutional rights and who doesn’t, one can easily turn this back at him and Acosta. The left loves the FACE Act when it is used against pro-lifers in defense of abortion providers, but now that it is being used against left-wing anti-ICE activists in defense of a church, they are singing a new song.

Christy did not mention how his employer has been hypocritical on who gets constitutional rights and who doesn’t, as Kilmar Abrego Garcia can attest.

Steve Malzberg similarly lashed out at Acosta criticizing Lemon’s arrest in a Feb. 3 post:

It was a bit surprising to learn from our colleague Jorge Bonilla, that this past weekend’s Sunday news shows weren’t dominated by the arrest of former CNN host Don Lemon over his actions in a church invasion on January 18. But last Saturday on MS NOW, host Ali Velshi, who used to work with Lemon at CNN, brought on another CNN alumnus, Jim Acosta, to discuss poor Lemon’s plight on Velshi.

Velshi teased the segment by calling Lemon’s arrest, “An escalation of Donald Trump’s attack on press freedom that cannot be ignored,” and continued with that narrative.

[…]

Velshi then brought on Acosta to continue the Lemon lovefest, complete with making unsubstantiated accusations against President Trump.

Remember, it’s Malzberg’s job to perpetuate the Trump Regime Media narrative against Lemon.
