Dick Morris huffed in his June 17 Newsmax column:
Everyone agrees that the Iran peace deal will cause gas prices to drop. Indeed the price of a barrel of Brent Crude dropped 4% just on news of the deal.
The next few weeks, we will all see gas prices drop, nullifying the Democratic critique of the economy and putting quite a dent in the “affordability” issue with which Democrats are so enamored.
Regardless of the ultimate level of prices, the rapid drop we are all about to witness in gas prices takes away the inflation issue from the midterms.
The effect on Trump’s ratings on the economy are sure to be dramatic.
[…]By going to war, raising the price, and then bringing it down, Trump is like the person who stopped hitting himself over the head: it feels good when it stops.
That sense of well-being is likely to be felt way beyond just energy prices. It makes a “morning again in America” believable.
MAGA — making America Great Again —is now within reach.
Morris repeated his claim in a June 20 TV appearance:
Veteran political strategist Dick Morris said the sharp drop in gasoline prices following the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding will reshape the 2026 midterm landscape and help Republicans keep the House and the Senate.
Speaking on Newsmax TV’s “Saturday Report,” Morris, a Newsmax contributor and former adviser to President Bill Clinton, framed the pump price as the single economic indicator voters track most closely.
The problem for Morris — and everyone else, really — is that there is no actual, binding agreement between the U.S. and Iran, and gas prices have not fallen. Indeed, prices are at an all-time high for August as a result of Trump’s war in Iran.
We assume that Morris didn’t factor this in — and this will be yet another failed prediction from him.
