The Media Research Center is not the only ConWeb outlet with a lingering case of Obama Derangement Syndrome — WorldNetDaily similarly unleashed hatred at the former president over his library. Bob Unruh was childishly mocking the way it looked in an October 2025 article:
It’s been called a “trash can.”
Also, a “hulking grey monolith” and “a totalitarian command center dropped straight out of ‘1984,’” and “ugliest ever.”
One commenter said, “It would take someone who really, really hates themselves to build something like that.”
The presidential library for Barack Obama, which will hold digital versions of documents from his term, not the originals, is expected to come in with a total cost of under a billion dollars.
The concrete behemoth is located in Chicago, and in recent days has become the target of online trolling. MUCH online trolling.
When the center opened, an anonymously written June 19 article huffed while also mocking the way it looked:
A concrete tower in Chicago that is the presidential library of Barack Obama has opened.
Friday was the first day the public was invited to pay $20 or more to enter, and on Thursday a cast of stars danced to music in a grand opening.
Of course the Obamas were there, with Michelle boasting about Barack’s Nobel Peace Prize, and they were joined by ex-presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Joe Biden, with their former first ladies.
[…]The project, often compared to a Star Wars space prison, had promised Chicago officials a $470 million fund to make sure the maintenance didn’t fall to taxpayers, and had $1 million at opening. The costs were estimated to be about $350 million but most recent totals have surpassed $850 million and rising.
And there remain fights over a multitude of subcontractors who say they have yet to be paid, sometimes owed millions.
The anonymous author didn’t mention the fact that the current president, Donald Trump, has a history of stiffing contractors on his projects. The author then complained that former president Joe Biden “asked about his granddaughter,” which led to a rehashing of how “the episode recalled many times during his presidency when he appeared to be completely disoriented while on, or off, a stage, and his uncertainty about what to do and where to go.”
Unruh returned for more complaining in a June 26 article:
Michelle Obama has unleashed a new jaw-dropper about her husband, Barack Obama, the former president.
He’s “uncomfortable” with all the attention he’s getting.
This at a time when his presidential library just opened in Chicago, a barren concrete monolith likened to the space prisons of Star Wars fiction and now being referred to as the “Obamalisk.”
Actually, here is what she said:
In her interview, she claims, “He’s completely uncomfortable with this thing being about him.”
Her claims went even further, as she said her husband wanted “a little less” of himself in the project.
And she fought back. “I think people coming here want to hear about you.”
It was the Gateway Pundit that couldn’t resist pointing out, “Was she trying to make us laugh? It’s working. Obama is famous for his speeches featuring the words I, me, and my over and over again. He loves tweeting pictures of himself on holidays and when anything is in the news that he can somehow make all about himself.”
Yes, Unruh has once again called on the discredited Gateway Pundit to offer comment. He didn’t disclose the fact that it’s discredited, of course.
Unruh followed with a July 23 article in which he argued that the main things worth writing about the center was “ongoing criticisms about its Star Wars-prison appearance and failure to pay contractors who worked on the monolith project.” He too failed to disclose Trump’s history of stiffing contractors.
